RPI and "the committee".

OK, i'm getting kind of tired about hearing how the RPI doesn't really matter "that much". Seth Davis has a column about it i read last night at Yahoosports.

we can all agree it's a deeply flawed, though well-inteded statistacal measure.

YET, if it doesn't matter that much, then how is Jerry Palm able to predict a majority of the bracket within 1 of actual seed. ESPN copycat Joe Lunardi likes to brag that he's predicted the field 63 of 65 teams or whatever.....yet, once it gets to be Sunday about 90% of the field is obvious whether they are conference winners or teams that have earned in. there's about 8 team cushion that's in/out.

big deal. if Lunardi goes 4/8 he's still 61/68. the "committee" needs to come clean and quit pretending it's a bunch of super-genius types in a star chamber and admit what's up.

the other thing you hear is now that the guy from Iowa has stepped down they are looking at "more subjective" criteria....which anytime i hear "subjective" and "NCAA" i'm thinking we'll do what makes more $$$$$ at the expense of the integrity of sports. the so-called "pod system" being a case in point. Of course, Packer has been crying for this for years....during every Final Four broadcast. though his motive seems to be creeping irrelevance.
