Martz's "qb school" fails and Joey wants out. With Kitna in the fold and the Lions now talking with Mckown looks like the Joey experiment is over.

I was wondering why McCown was visiting the Lions even after Kitna signed. So those meetings between Harrington and Martz weren't going as well as originally reported? I know Harrington was due a roster bonus...can they cut him before they have to pay that out? I don't know how much value he has as a tradeable commodity. It really sounded like Harrington was going to stick around from what I read originally. I wonder what caused the fallout.

The whole idea behind a roster bonus is that a player can be cut without any harm to the salary cap because the roster bonus would count 100% against that current year's salary cap. It's exactly the reason why the Eagles were able to cut TO without a cap hit.

He's due the 4 mil on June 1. He'll be cut as soon as the Lions sign another qb.

OK...I wasn't sure if all roster bonuses were handed out at the same time because I heard about the Eagles cutting T.O. before they had to pay the roster bonus to him. I'm confused to why they are signing another QB though with Orlovsky already on the roster and then they signed King a couple weeks ago and Kitna yesterday. Are they shopping Orlovsky?

According to Kowalski, when Joey leaves it will be an open competition between whoever comes into camp. This is quite a change from the vote of confidence given to Joey by mgmt.

So long and good luck Joe.

No kidding. Like I said, I was pretty sure Joey would be the #1 again going into the season until this came out. This reminds me of how they handled the Mornhinweg situation. He was made out like he was safe and coming back the following year but then they fire him and go after Mooch. I'm almost wondering if they're letting him go because they are looking at a QB in the draft since Leinart is going to slide down to at least #3. They could have a shot at Cutler or Young at #10 when maybe they weren't going to before Brees signed with the Saints. Or they're just going to sign McCown and have Kitna, McCown and King battle it out.

Guarantee fookin Harrington will land in KC.

Peterson still loves the worthless fuck, or maybe it was just Detroit that made him suck so suckily.

With Collins in DC, Harrington will land here as Green's back up - and our QB of the future.

Yikes!

Seeing all of these moves at QB makes me wonder why didn't the Lions take a run at Drew Brees? They go out and sign 3 backup QBs to compete for the starting job for a team with an underachieving offense. Fingers crossed that either Kitna or McCown thrive under Martz's offense...Millen is going to get hammered if this next experiment fails miserably. I can't think that these guys are going to be the answer for more than a couple of years...they're bound to go with another QB in the draft in next few seasons and we'll start the whole process over again. Pardon me if I'm a little cynical right now...even though I'm very excited about the new coaching staff.

He'd be skewered in Oakland.

Why not New England? Davey signed with Arizona and with Brady's durability, Joey isn't probably going to see the field anyways. I don't know if Dick Jauron was a Harrington fan when he was in Detroit...they don't have a very good situation at QB in Buffalo. That's a possibility as well. Another possibility is Baltimore...he could possibly compete with Boller for the #1 job unless the Ravens are looking at a QB in the draft.
