1st round random thoughts

Post by Shine »

- Colonial showed they were a legit conference with UNC-W losing in OT to GW and Mason knocking off the Sparties

- Big East (5-3) and Big 10 (3-3) not really backing up their high praise from the regular season thus far but of the two the BE has the best chance at redemption

- I hate how random CBS is with their decisions on when/how to switch games

- it's all about survive and advance and TONS of former champs survived scares on route to a title, so don't count out the likes of UConn or BC just yet

- I really hope the W by Northwestern St was the final nail in the coffin that keeps Steve Alford from having a Bloomington address next year

- I hate MSU, they cost me a 5 team parlay

All in all a great first two days to the tourney and lots of intriguing matchups for 2nd round. In no particular order the ones I'm looking most forward to:

IU vs Gonzaga- duh

GW vs Dook- GW not your typical 8 seed and they have depth, energy and lots of interchangeable parts that could give them Hazard boys a scare. That Redick though, he's pretty decent

G-Town vs tO$U- B10 champs could be in trouble here

UW-Milwaukee vs UF- a W by UW could mean $$$ for Shine

i agree. i've been seeing the whole KU-Bradley game and i'm into the flow of the game and they cut away while KU is on 7-0, and 9-2 run, and 5 straight Bradley turnovers (about 4 minutes left) so i can watch Roy Williams stand in a timeout for about a minute of gametime in the KU-Bradley game.

Both 'Bama and A&M have a much better chance of moving on than GW.All the 'two-man team' bullshit about Duke is just that, the same people who think everyone but Reddick and Williams are scrubs probably said the same about them when they were freshmen.

But we will see. I'll be at work all day tomorrow so I figured I'd call it now.

You should've known better...State was a major underachiever this year.

My winners for the second round...
Atlanta: Duke, LSU, West Virginia, Texas
Oakland: Memphis, Pittsburgh, Indiana, UCLA
Washington DC: Connecticut, Washington, North Carolina, Wichita State
Minneapolis: Villanova, Boston College, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Georgetown

I don't think Georgetown has enough to beat Ohio State, but I am pulling for them.

I do like UW Milwaukee to beat Florida and Indiana to beat Gonzaga.

6-2 in Day 1...no real upsets to speak of. Wisconsin-Milwaukee couldn't hang with Florida's athleticism. Indiana-Gonzaga was pretty much a toss-up. Woulda thunkit...Morrison goes for only 14 points and the Bulldogs still won. Wichita State over Tennessee shouldn't have surprised anyone. I'm going with mostly chalk today but I got Georgetown over Ohio State...that one could go with either though.

Wisc-Mil was supposed to be ths TEAM. Five 5 year senior with some 360 games of experience between them. We ran them out of the gym.

UF breaks the strek of first round fuck-ups. This team, yes finally a UF team, is 4 sophs and a junior. They will be a TEAM to be reckoned with over the next couple years. It is nice to have players that aren't auditoning for the NBA on every single play.

A five team parlay? Why don't you just play powerball?

Wisconsin-Milwaukee wasn't that great. They just drew a terrible team in the first round.

Congratulations on the Sweet Sixteen though. Without checking, I think I've got the Gates moving on to the Eight.
Didn't the same team make the tourney the last two years and win some games? Maybe a sweet 16 last year? Not sure, but I know they have made noise with this same team in the past.

edit: They were a sweet 16 team last year with virtually the same roster. Couple that with UF's first weekend slump and you have a recipe for uh-oh here we go again. Kudos to Billy D for changing the type of player he recruits from prima donna to workhorse role player. You can tell every game vs the MIckey D's AA showboating ballhogging idiots he had before.
