What's the big deal with mashups? Is it anything that bored college radio DJs haven't been doing for years?

take the vocal track off a 12" and put the a capella track from another song on there.
I did really really like the gray album just to hear all the beatles tracks.

I guess it's just something I like. Not really sure if it's "cool", nor do I care.
