IU coaching search update

It looks very likely now that Alford won't be getting the job. I can't help but worry though that this is like in the horror movie where you think the maniac killer is dead and then he jumps up one last time to take a stab at you. I really don't want Alford.
Anyway, there are now 4 main guys the rumors are swirling about.
Least likely is Gillispie from ATM. Word is he's about to announce he's staying at ATM.
Tom Crean is next on the list. He never gets tons of buzz going but he's constantly a name mentioned.
The two guys with the most buzz now are Randy Wittman and Mark Few. Reports are coming out that IU and Few have even talked contract length and dollar figures. Wittman's name has been rumored for a long time and many former players have backed him for the job.
Regardless of who it is, it appears someone will be announced within the next 2 weeks.

He's not going anywhere. He makes like $1.6 million a year coaching in the top conference in the country.

Is Whittman the dude in the NBA?
I don't think you guys will get Few. I've heard that he's headed to Arizona this year after Lute announces his retirement.
Wither JON?

Is there really noise about Lute retiring? I've been wondering about that. He's a great coach but I won't miss him.

Yeah, mainly for health reasons. If you saw his post game presser, he seemed a bit off.

Yeah, cuz Marquette has all the prestige of IU and he'll have just as good a shot at winning a title where he is versus IU.
Not trying to be arrogant here, but if IU wants him he's ours.

I have it on very good authority Lute will be gone within 2 more years max.

Randy Wittman played on the 81 championship team for IU. He coached the Cavaliers for 2 years and has been an NBA coach in some form for 14 years.

Actually, Crean would be my first choice if ND ever decides to axe Brey.
In that regard, ND has more in common, institutionally speaking, with Marquette than does IU. Both ND and Marquette are private Catholic schools with relatively small enrollments. They also happen to play in the same conference. IU is a huge land-grant state university that plays in a different conference. But I'd say that ND is slightly more prestigious than Marquette, even though Marquette has had more success in basketball of late.
OTOH, one thing IU has in common with Marquette is that hoops is king at both places, while it takes a back seat to football at ND.
If you guys are serious about Crean, I seriously hope that ND talks to the guy and at least gauges the interest he'd have in ND before he makes a move.

It's just that, a rumor. Gillispie WAS very high on the IU list but he was never offered the gig and no formal interview or the like ever took place.

Hard to say with 100% certainty but his name comes up enough that I think IU has some interest in him.
We'll all know a lot more in about 2 weeks.

So because a program has prestige means any coach it wants will come calling? Marquette may not have the prestige of Indiana, but it certainly does have their own level of prestige.
Crean took a C-USA team to a Final Four, so with another year of recruiting for the Big East I wouldn't doubt he could go that far again. He did a great job this season after the departure of Diener.
I'd be shocked if he left Marquette.
