This is the time of year for such research. I think more than playing weaker opponents at home or within one school's region, the biggest pussy move a school can make is playing non-division 1 schools. So I did some checking, and with all due apologies to Shaz, I present the offenders...

That's a huge pet peeve of mine as well. Unfortunatley Texas is going that route this coming year with 1-AA Sam Houston State on the schedule. I can understand and even sympathize with some lesser 1-A schools playing these games, but it's pretty sad when teams in the middle or upper echelon of the major conferences schedule these types of games. IMHO its an insult to the fans who fork out a lot of dough for tickets.

LSU is wrong...they played Appalachian State last year...and I am pretty sure they've played more than that.

since when did Western Illinois, Citadel, Western Carolina, and appalacian st become Div1 schools? (LSU schedule since 00)

so that's 4 cream puffers!

Who made that list up? Fact check a little?

We had to get a 12th game and we couldn't find anyone to play. We had BC on the schedule but they backed out. At least UCLA is coming to Austin. I still need some redemption from 1997.

Indeed, Rack the Big Ten. However, Ohio State might cave by scheduling Tressel's old team-- Youngstown State.

SHS is a last minute add due to the NCAA allowing a 12th game. I wouldn't really count that. If I remember correctly the two that Texas has played are both North Texas State when they were D1-AA.

COlorado plays Montana or Montana State this year. i think they are D-II.

To be fair a good number of these are because a team had another D-1 school back out a contract. See Auburn backing out of a number of contracts and then their scheduled opponent having to scramble to fill a game with little notice.

Some though are of the KSU mentality. While others as Trix tried to argue are just for the 6th home game. Remember the money trumps the fact that they are playing poor non-conf opponents.

Correct. I think there were a lot more in the 80s, although Tech wasn't much better than a DIaa school back then.

I originally thought the 0 next to Va Tech was the number of seasons they had NOT scheduled a DIaa or equally suck school.

Thats what happened to FSU. AUburn backed out of the contract, so we had to go scrambling for teams w/ open dates.

I know they have played Cincinnati in recent years.

Cinci is d-1. OSU usually plays OH MAC teams.

I know Cincinnati is Division 1 A. BTH asked if they played 1 A teams in Ohio and I knew that they played Cincinnati a couple of times over the past few years.

^^^Nope. Ohio MAC & (formerly) C-USA schools. Toledo, BG, Ohio, Miami, Kent State, Akron, Cincinnati have all been to the 'Shoe in recent years.

Northern Illinois is on the slate for '06.

BTH- tOSU has played Oberlin 25 times with a record of 13-9-3. The last time they played was 1922.

Just for shits and giggles.

I'd like to point out that since the NCAA began classifying teams as Division I, etc., beginning in 1973, ND has never played a team that was not D-I, or later, D-IA.

Like I said, most of OSU's creampuffs are in-state MAC schools or Cinci.

It can be understood that a team plays a less than stellar opponent when somebody bails out of a contract, but how often has that happened to where a d-1 team can't be found? The schools with more than 1 or 2 occurences, I would bet, sought out the scrub squads.
