Farmers' Market Report

Post by Mikey »

3/25/07

After a couple of weeks when the Vista Farmers' Market was a little slow due to rain, all the vendors were out today. It was sunny and about 70 degrees, perfect for outdoor produce shopping. The immediate and obvious impression today is that the local strawberries are starting to hit their stride. Probably 50% of the vendors were selling large red ripe sweet berries, and the going price was $2.50 a basket or $8.00 for a box of three. This things good.

Here's this week's take:

Image

front row, l to r: baby lettuce variety, celery, carrots, multi-grain bread, country french bread (under the multi-grain)
in the bowl, clockwise from top: italian parsley, artichokes, tomatoes, onions, strawberries, cabbage (center)
back row tomato seedlings: sungold, black plum, giant belgium, pineapple, goliath, black from Tula

Nope.

We get plenty from Oceanside, Carlsbad and Vista.
