Those Classically Russian onion shaped domes such as these on St Basil's Catherdral...those cupolas...

...they have a formal name. That name is escaping me, and I can't locate it on the 'net, and my drawing a blank on their name is bothering the fuck out of me!!

What in the hell are they called again??

I think this would be more along the lines of a "semi-formal" onion.

Really, Roach, good point.

Dins, get the fuck in here and come up with something! This is so right up your alley.

I wanna say the word I'm thinking of sounds French, like "minuet", but obviously that's not it.

Fu, c'mon, you're in the KGB or some shit...

Your wire taps, up inside those onion domes, when you put out the order to tap that place...

C'mon!!

:fuck!!:

"Minaret" is definitely not what you're looking for.

That's a (ahem) Muslim thing (not Russian Orthodox)

Mikey, thanks, but nope, it's definitely not "minaret" either...

Dammit. Man, this is pissing me off. I know I'm thinking of something much more formal sounding than just "onion dome".

Fuckabuncha Wikipedia!!

Hell, I could've come up with....onion dome!!

This is going to bug me for the rest of my life, or at least until it suddenly comes to me while I'm reading Dilbert or something.

My new amp which was supposed ot arrived by now instead got mistakenly shipped to freaking Alaska, my new Strat didn't show up either, the new hottie at work sent me a link to her Hawaiian Tropic pics and the link didn't work for shit and now I'm stuck with an onion dome. Wednesdays suck balls.

m2, you've never had one of those moments when you just blank on something, and you know it's just going to bug the cuntsnifter out of you until you dredge it back up again??

Maybe that's not you.

That's just how I'm wired. Pebble-in-my-shoe stuff like that...it kills me when I can't recall something.

I'm just asking the question, why?

Why do you have the interest in the name?

TVO,

If you had to do it over...

Would you choose being a lawyer?

I'm just wondering... since I talked to my Uncle(a doctor) the other day, and he said he would choose another profession if he had to do it over again.

I ask this... because you're a smart guy, but seem bitter.

Long story short...

Me, to my co-worker: "Victoria, B.C., is the prettiest city I've ever seen. Paris doesn't suck either."

My co-worker: "Paris sucks dog balls compared to St Petersburg, Russia. St Petersburg is way prettier."

Me: "Okay, fine, St Petersburg has lots of ornate churches and lots of those buildings with those....those....fuck...those cupolas...those...."

Him: "I know what you mean."

Me: "What are those things called, the cupolas that look like Hershey's Kisses?"

Him: "Dunno. Domes?"

Me: ~google~

~no luck. fuck.~

~call my wife at home to ask her, since she's the Crossword Puzzle player...she doesn't know. fuck...she also managed to lock her keys in the car today, for the first time in the twelve years I've known her....chuckle....but still...fuck. don't care about her stupid car keys right now...mock her about it later...want my answer....fuck.~

~on a lark, I call the Russian Embassy in San Francisco...they can't even figure out what it is I'm trying to ask 'em...fuck...~

~i know!!...one of YOU monkeys will surely know!...people from this place claim to be everything from professional dodge ball players to CEOs of Fortune 400 companies to East German Stazi to Olympic pole smokers...surely one of you here will know...~

Because of its shape, the dome is often called an onion dome (also called an amrud or apple dome).

Take a halfway decent thread bordering on humorous, add a few M2 and moving sale posts, and a total piece of unreadable shit brought to a screeching halt is what you end up with.

Seven letter word, ends with "s."

[rant]Dear Van,

Fuck you!

Yea, that's right I said "Fuck You!". I just wasted the last 1/2 hour googling all sorts of shit in order to find your mystery word. Guess what Bucko? It doesn't exist. All roads lead to ...
A pointed bulbous domelike roof, used especially in parts of Russia and eastern Europe.
...or a variation of that.

Next time you THINK a word exists for some stupid topic you happen to be sussin about, just make one up. Whoever is listening to you is gonna believe anything you say anyway (I just did), so just pull some non-sense out of your vast vocabulary and run with it. Sneak away for a minute and edit a wikipedia page as your proof.

[/rant]

I did find this link that you may enjoy ... :D

m2, I'd agree that SF is America's most beautiful city. No argument there.

The world's? I don't think I'd go that far. Right off the bat I think I'd take Victoria over SF. SF is at least definitely in the conversation though.

TWiS, yep, I already tried the hour's worth of googling thing too. I also struck out.

But sure, let's just come up with or own word for it. It's....a...

......ummm...

....it's...a..
