But wasn't BVito just telling us yesterday that Aldridge was God, returning, and the rest of the Big 12 was doomed to being texass bitch forever in basketball?Believe the Heupel wrote:More on the "Good news for everyone else in the Big 12" front: LaMarcus Aldridge looks to be leaning towards the NBA.
On the bright side, Damion James, Scottie Reynolds, and Tony Crocker all reaffirmed their commitments to OU last night and all three said that Sampson called them personally and told them they should still go to OU. I am now much less pissed at Indiana's coach than I was a week ago.
Rick Barnes reportedly offered $2mm by NC State.

The last two days have been almost unlistenable down here on sports talk radio...NCSU fans are calling up saying good riddance, or why did Herb leave and they want Barnes, Caliapari, Creen, etc...
If Rick Barnes didn't get up in Dean Smiths face there is no way NCSU fans would want him...I mean he had some good teams at Clemson and didn't do much with them...why would he leave Texas? Texas can pay him and he has got a great class coming in this year...oh well who cares...
ACC = DUKE and CAROLINA...if NCSU fan thinks they will ever be on par with them they are fucking crazy...
anyway carry on...

Dunno about the first part of this post. But I would submit that all things considered, NC State has a better basketball tradition than does Texas. Of course, Texas can probably afford to match any offer NC State makes, and they have the advantage of being top dog in their state, whereas NC State will always be little brother (at least in basketball) to UNC. But given Barnes' background and the aforementioned tradition edge to NC State, who knows?buckeye_in_sc wrote:If Rick Barnes didn't get up in Dean Smiths face there is no way NCSU fans would want him...I mean he had some good teams at Clemson and didn't do much with them...why would he leave Texas? Calipari may be more realistic, and he'd be a good pick. He's been to the Final Four once and the Elite Eight twice, both times with teams from either, depending on one's perspective mid-major conferences or conferences from the low end of the elite level. So going to the ACC would be a step up in that regard.
Read Coach K's autobiography sometime. In it, he mentions that NC State's improbable title run in 1983 occurred during his first season at Duke, when he lost 17. He credits Jimmy V with saving his job, in that the local media was so focused on State that they forgot about him.ACC = DUKE and CAROLINA...if NCSU fan thinks they will ever be on par with them they are fucking crazy...
Coach K won't be at Duke forever. Hard to say where that program will go when he leaves. But there could be a void in the ACC in that event, and if so, State has as good a chance as anyone else to fill it. Just sayin'.

I heard similar speak about Dean Smith. I'd say UNC as well as Duke will always just reload. Then again, there's the UCLA example...no one will be great every year for all of eternity. That is a given.Terry in Crapchester wrote:Coach K won't be at Duke forever. Hard to say where that program will go when he leaves. I don't think anyone should want to get Calipari out of Memphis. I think his [cheating] style [cheating] fits very well down there.Believe the Heupel wrote:I don't think anyone's going to get Calipari out of Memphis. Not NCSU, not OU, nobody.

Terry i see your point...but again...why would a coach want to come into a situation where a coach just left
by winning 20+ games a year on average
Been to the Dance 5 straight years (sweet 16 last year)
Played in the ACC conference title game a couple of times
and had virtually the same record vs Carolina that Valvano had I think valvano was like 7-16 vs Carolina and Sendek was like 6-17...
why would any coach want to step into that? Sure money is a factor, but Cal has a good deal at Memphis (he is top dog in C-USA), Barnes for all intents and purposes outside of Kansas is turning Texas into the top dog in the Big 12 (jury is out on OU until their coach is hired) and Barnes can make the same money at Texas without all the hassle he would have at NCSU...I would think for now Elite 8's, Sweet 16's are good enough for Texas fan since their basketball tradition and history is say not on par with Kansas or OU for now...just my opinion
I think NCSU is going to get some mid-major guy and hopefully he'll be able to get to the next level...although NCSU fans are a little short sighted in that they feel as though they should be playing for NC's every year...need I remind them Duke has been knocked out of the tourney in the Sweet 16/Elite 8 what the last 3 or 4 years in a row...I don't see them calling for K's head and he has WAAAAYYYY BETTER talent than NCSU...it will be interesting that is for sure...They are throwing so many names out down here it is laughable...I have heard everyone from Creen to Barnes to Gregg Marshall at Winthrop to Brad Miller...we shall see

Duke is not UNC. It's a private school, so it doesn't have the built-in fan base that will stay even if the program falls on hard times. Also, Duke before Krzyzewski had far less tradition than UNC before Smith.IndyFrisco wrote:I heard similar speak about Dean Smith. i was getting a Master's at CU when Rick was here.....and the guy is kind of slimey.....but it's more i think that he just thinks he's smarter than everyone else so isn't bound by the same rules of conduct and ethics and mutual respect. I will say to his credit that the players I taught that he recruited were almost always fairly interesting and engaged as students. I'm not a fan of Rick, but he's not without some decent qualities.Killian wrote:Well I guess I should give the guy a break. I don't know, he just seems a little to...Neuheisal, if you ask me.
a lot of Barney's players all kind of had this contempt for education and, to simply say it, were prone to a lot of plagiarism-type issues. many of which went unpunished (under some hokey "Team building" excuse that the AD tutoring support used to trot out--we're talking like cut and paste cheating).....whereas a normal student would not have been given the same freebie and by the mandate of the University Honor Code would have faced pretty stiff penalites including possible explusion. i am speaking from direct personal experience.
i'm not a big fan of Calipari. i think UAB's Anderson would have been the best hire for OU's fractured fan base. too late for that.

What? UNC had a NC in 1957 with McGuire before Dean took over for him. But Duke was a national power in the 60's under Vic Bubas and again in the late 70's with Eddie Foster. It's not like K singlehandedly created a winning tradition at Duke.Terry in Crapchester wrote:Also, Duke before Krzyzewski had far less tradition than UNC before Smith.
