NCAA Football 07 detailed?

Curriculum of EA's college football game posted on retailer's site; features include new momentum system, emphasis on...GPA??
In what has to be one of the least surprising moves in gaming history, Electronic Arts is apparently rolling out another edition of NCAA Football. Months ago, online retailers began posting product pages for NCAA Football 07, the sequel to the very successful NCAA Football 06. While fans of undergrad football bet their tuition on a new edition, they didn't really have an idea of what would be in it--until recently.

A game description has been posted on GameStop.com for the PlayStation 2 edition (EBGames.com has listings for Xbox 360 and Xbox versions), throwing out some tidbits of info on new features. If the product page is to be believed, 07 will have an emphasis on making big plays that will be able to "turn the tide," courtesy of the new momentum system.

Preseason will have the spring game, which helps evaluate incoming freshmen, and spring drills, a set of stat-boosting minigames akin to Madden NFL's minicamp mode. EA's deal with sports network ESPN will also make its debut in the series, with "real-time updates from ESPN Radio," as well as dynasty mode info through ESPN.com.

Good news for NCAA Football fans who always wondered how their players were doing on their Communications midterm. NCAA Football 07 will also have a back-to-school mode, where characters live the life of a student athlete by studying, playing some pigskin, and attending social events--unlike some real-life college programs. Manage the character's time right, and he'll excel on the field as well as in the classroom.

EA has not yet officially announced NCAA Football 2007. Requests for comment went unanswered as of press time.
<sarcasm>Man, I always wished for The Sims in my sports games!</sarcasm>

The stupid ass Sims thing notwithstanding, I'm looking forward to the Xbox 360 version. I'll avoid back-to-school mode, thank you.

EA is ruining this game

2006 was garbage

2005 was good, with flaws

My team was on 2 years probation, why? not because they were cheating, failing, etc. because so many players were late to practice :meds: :meds: :meds:

yeah, college football programs get probation from NCAA,because their kids showing up to practice late :meds: :meds:

just give us the game ya dumfucks, quit with the added crapola. get rid of the points for program. i dont have a problem with suspending the kids, but having 30 kids in 1 season be late, and it puts the team on probation?

get the fuck out of here!

They turn it into a Sims-style game and I'm done with it. Must be reaching the tip of the creative iceberg as far as the on-field action goes, I suspect. Either that or technological limitations have been reached.

Yeah I am done with the game, they watered down the actual football part of it.

Spring practice = cool.
Adding transfers a few years ago = cool.
Position changes = cool.
Players getting in trouble = cool.
In season recruiting and inviting kids on visits = cool.

Going on probation for kids being late = not cool.
Race for the Heisman = not cool.
Mascot game = not cool.
Creating signs in the crowd = not cool.
The whole student experience thing = not cool.

What they should be working on:
-An engine that creates some kind of realistic special teams. You should be able to return a punt or kick off more than once every 5 years. Also, some teams are adapt at blocking kicks and punts. I haven't been able to block a punt since the 2002 game, and I haven't blocked a field goal since the '99 game.
-Realistic passing. My QB should get at least 3-4 seconds in the pocket, and I shouldn't be able to just throw jump balls to my recievers.
-Get rid of the super linebacker who has a 45" vertical and hands of glue.
-More realistic running game. My back isn't Barry Sanders so he shouldn't be able to go 2, 2, 2, 75, 2, 2, etc.
-DB's who actually play the ball

They're going more for the 12-15 year old audience rather than the 20-30 audience who actually play the game and enjoy it.

I play NCAA for one month out of every year... Once I get the rosters, I play it for a month to kill time before Madden comes out. Then I save the rosters so that I can upload them to Madden. Then I put NCAA away and don't think about it again until I sell it. I'd highly recommend all of you follow my lead. In fact, this year, I'll probably just rent it.

RACK this.

Some of my biggest complaints have been that only certain types of throws can actuall be caught and the DB's always play the man. I have never blocked a field goal and these supermen LBs are absurd. Again, RACK.

I agree with Killian on all points except for kickoffs/punt returns. Maybe I'm just getting better blocking, but I tend to return these more than just occasionally.

Take it off JV level. J/k.

RACK Killian. I have similar gripes.

My biggest gripe is the "Artificial Intelligence" that happens in almost any close game or game against a good school. No matter how much you are winning by or how much you are dominating the game, once the 4th Quarter starts, the game goes bullshit. Your RB starts fumbling, your 85 Bears Defense turns into a Pac10 def, etc.

I actually liked Race for the Heisman.

It sounds like that superstar mode thing that was in Madden 06. I wish EA would keep that garbage out of their games.

Man, don't even get me started on this piece of shit game. Momentum is already out of control on 06. I can't believe they're going to make it even more prominent. But like the mindless sheep that I am, I'll still march right out and drop my $50 the day 07 comes out. I can't help it. I'm a CFB junkie.

If you have any interest in discussing this game in detail, you guys can join me & Shawn Marion geeking it up over at http://www.vgsportsinc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=35.

Just do a forum search for "this game sucks" or "I hate this game" or "momentum is BS" if you want more of my eloquent opining on this subject.

College football on the PC...good times. With EA dropping out of the MLB business...I'm left to only Madden and the NHL games on my computer.

I'd rather slit my throat than focus on anything professional over college. :D

They didn't drop out, SEGA forced them out. SEGA snuck in and got and exclusivity agreement from MLB. EA responded by coming to agreements to merge their titles with ESPN and get the exclusivity rights to the NFL. As in if you enjoyed the 2k NFL games in the past you won't be for the next couple of years. Same with EA MLB games. EA won out in the long run. They got the most popular sports genre game (football) on lock and ESPN sports ticker on their games.

Maybe I'm just not as cynical as you guys, but I enjoyed NCAA 06, depiste its obvious shortcomings. I think every sports game I've ever played could've been tweaked to make it better, so I don't go into any game expecting perfection.

edit to add: NCAA basketball, now that's a whole different story. I haven't played a decent NCAA b-ball game since SEGA's Coach K.

This is a good read. Looks like they are overhauling the special teams and some other aspects.

I'm down with the spring game thing. If they want to keep it real (what up with my ebonics tonight?), they should make sure 60 thousand fans are in Nebraska's memorial stadium for the spring game and 12K in USC's.

The momentum idea is a good one....if they keep it realistic. If I'm up by 28 in the 3rd quarter, give em 10 points off the turnover and maybe a field goal on their next possession. A single INT shouldn't have my team fumbling at the 4 yard line and them taking punts to the house the rest of the game.

is that a bash on USC or its fans cause 60,000 of them didnt show up to watch practice? What else is there to do in Lincoln Nebraska?

One of the big AI fixes is aimed at stopping scrambling quarterbacks. Last year's game in particular was ruled by running QBs as the defense failed to recognize when he was scrambling. The improved AI logic now sees the defense react faster to quarterbacks looking to run, including spies, and even zone defenses who will use more realistic pursuit logic.
What? I thought this was normal in football.

I'm not so sure about the momentum shifting thing. I'd rather everything be based on a play-by-play scenario. Whoever calls and executes better play should be rewarded, from the onset of the first play, until the clock hits zeros.

Nebraska spring game attendance....60 thousand
USC spring game attendance...12 thousand

Nebraska population base...less than 2 mill.
So Cal population base...40 bazillion

Love for the game....priceless

No bash intended. We hicks got cable and high-speed internet connections, too. We may not have the beach and sunny weather but it was about 70 degrees and sunny the day of the NU spring game. Some fans drove 400+ miles to attend which means leaving at 4 am or staying over the night before.

Having more entertainment opportunities and cross town rival UCLA's fan base should hardly be a blip on the radar when you consider the multiple millions living in the area.

I think that speaks for itself. Never mind the two programs' recent fortunes on the field or the overloaded USC bandwagon these days.

Just sayin'

edit: wanted to add that 40 thousand attended Texas' (national champs) spring game and Austin has all kinds of shit to do. Hell, even 25K showed up in Norman, OK albeit they canceled banjo practice that day 8)

I dont think spring game attendance is any indication of fan support. FSU's spring game never has more than 10k and yet Doak is always sold out.

I think they could have both (momenum shifts and play calling to counteract it) which would add to the realism.

Say a defense stuffs the running back on 1st down for a 2 yard loss. The crowd gets jacked and the momentum begins to shift. On 2nd and 12, a jacked up linebacker blitzes the qb and sacks him for an 8 yard loss. The crowd is going apeshit and the entire defense has a huge adrenaline rush going on. On 3rd and 20, a smart O-coordinator tries to take advantage of the inevitable overpursuit and calls some type of delay, screen, or counter play. If the game wants to be realistic, the offense stands to make a big-gainer in this scenario. Not everytime, but once in awhile. And if the play fails, it's 4 and 13....not an INT taken the other way EVERYTIME. You get to punt and regroup the next series.
