Aggies' QB charged with sex assault, kicked off team

LOGAN, Utah -- Utah State quarterback Jerod Walker was charged Wednesday with aggravated sexual assault, then kicked off the team later in the day.
Walker, 19, was arrested last week after a woman accused him of raping her in his campus apartment April 9. Walker told police he had consensual sex with the woman.
The Cache County attorney's office filed a formal charge against Walker on Wednesday. He was scheduled to appear Thursday in 1st District Court.
Walker was also cited by campus police Monday for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
Officers responding to a call about the smell of marijuana went to the room of Utah State receiver Dionte' Holloway and found a small amount of the drug in the room, Utah State police Lt. Shane Sessions said.
Officers had seen Walker leaving the room and went to his room after speaking with Holloway. Walker also smelled of marijuana and was cited, Sessions said. Neither player was taken into custody.
Utah State coach Brent Guy issued a statement Wednesday saying Walker and Holloway had been dismissed from the team for unspecified team rules violations.
Walker played in nine games last fall as a freshman, starting the last two. He completed 53 of 76 passes for 653 yards and six touchdowns and had 96 carries for 328 yards.
Holloway caught 10 passes for 194 yards in six games last fall.

I feel bad when I hear about these type of rape charges, They generally turn out to be nothing more than a he said/ she said fight and we never get down to the truth. I do hope justice is served, if he did rape her he deserves to lose his future, if not, I hope the truth finally comes out.
As for MJ thing,
Props to the Utah State coach for jumping on the problem early and ending it. I know smoking pot is common on every campus and I know for a fact that several Texas players do it, and I know for a fact that the Coaches know about it and turn a blind eye.
I just wish more coaches would make a stand and tell their players that the law is the law.
This is not to imply that the USU coaches did this only for the MJ issue, I think the Kitchen got kinda hot with both issues and the coach was forced to act. I just wanted to give him props for doing the right thing.

Cause I was thinking how refreshing it would be to hear a coach say something like "Hell no we're not kicking him off the team. The kid had a little bit of weed. He's not a big time drug dealer or anything. Marijuana is not a performance enhancing drug. He's already been issued a citation by the police. We see no need to ruin a young man's football career and take away his education for committing a petty misdemeanor that thousands of kids on this campus and campuses around the US commit on a daily basis. Not to mention the thousands of successful, well-adjusted adult professionals. He's sorry about it and has assured us that it won't happen again. It's just pot. Lighten up people."
Of course he'd immediately get shit-canned. The truth doesn't go over too well with holier-than-thou college admins and boosters. But it would be refeshing.

not sure what my experience has to do with this topic or my attitude toward an illegal substance. I got in a bar fight once, so should I tell my kid its ok to get in bar fights. I've done lots of things in my life that I now think are wrong, including drugs.

Well, there could be a perfectly justifiable reason for getting in a bar fight. I would hope that defending yourself and/or someone you care about is a value you'd try to instill in your kids.
What made you decide that doing drugs, or specifically, smoking pot, is wrong? I mean, at some point in your life you must've felt it was OK if you tried it. I'm just curious what happened to change your mind.
BTW, just because something is against the law, doesn't autmatically mean it's wrong. Sometimes it's the laws themselves that are wrong.

I grew up, decided to stop acting like a kid and take my role in society serious.
Besides, I decided early on that I prefered to keep my wits and judgement in all situations, I don't need chemicals to have a good time.
