Get a load of his quotes in this article claiming that athletes should be paid:

I'm also wondering how these kids can't get by. If their parents were able to pay for them while they were at home, food, clothes, etc...then how can't they pay for the same things while they're away? Also if not for athletic ability most (probably 75%) of these kids wouldn't get the opportunity to attend a school like $C. So there's a pretty good trade off.
Another brilliant idea.....well Reggie what about the other athletes who put in as much work as you do but don't get the perks that you receive as a football player? Are you going to pay the womens' golf team as much as you pay the football players or the mens' tennis team?
Maybe Regina ought to keep his pie hole shut because the more he opens it the more idiotic he seems. Just shut up and move to the NFL.

Yes it is hard work idiot, that's why you get the free education. Just think how hard it is for someone who is a regular student taking real classes where people don't do the work for them and don't have tutors and everything handed to them. How does he know the families of most athletes don't have money? Does Matt Leinhart really need money? Hell no, his parents paid for his private school education so they're not hurting. If Reggie's parents needed money for him and his parents fall into the category he's referring to then how the hell did they afford that house that he didn't know anything about?"It's a lot of hard work preparing for the college season, and at the end of the day, it's a lot of strain on your body and you're dealing with a lot of pressure," said Bush, who won the 2005 Heisman Trophy. "Most athletes, their families don't have a lot of money; and that means that once you pay your rent, there's little left over for the daily bills."

When asked how players should be paid, Bush suggested that athletes ought to be compensated based on performance. "Or maybe they could just pay the team equally," he said, "so that other players on the team don't get jealous."

I don't know how much the tuition, room and board, food etc...is at $C but measure that along with a degree from a reputable institution along with many alumni contacts and a pretty good job after football is over (for those who don't make it to the next level) and I'm sure if that's measured over a lifetime it's a lot more than 500K.Bush was worth at least $500,000 in direct economic impact to the athletic department, according to a formula devised by Robert Brown, an economics professor at Cal State-San Marcos, who has been studying college athletes and their worth to their schools for more than two decades. That figure includes Bush's impact on television contracts as well as championship and gate revenues. But according to Brown, Bush's real economic impact is likely greater, because those numbers do not account for indirect revenue effects, such as merchandise sales.
