A History of Violence
Do yourself a favor and DO NOT see this film. Holy shit, that was terrible.

I was surprised at how utterly simplistic and predictable the plot was. This can often be balanced out by good acting. It missed on that mark too.Bizzarofelice wrote:It just isn't gripping. The actor has never done more than raise an eyebrow. For some reason the wife is down with Vigo. His scene on the stairs with Maria got me some after seeing the movie. Gotta give him props for that.

Seeing Jennifer Tilly get fucked while wearing a backbrace was oddly kinky and creepy, a trait Cronenberg is famous for. HIS Crash was far superior to the most recent one which I've promised myself I will not see. I get tired of films about happy, PC race relations. That shit panders to the lowest common democratic denominator.
Bello was showing all kinds of FFN in A History of Violence. She is a beautiful woman. I specially dug her in the cheerleader outfit. William Hurt and Ed O'Neil were the best parts of the movie but I have to admit, seeing Viggo's son cripple that kid in the school hallway was excellent.

Lost Highway requires a few viewings and even you don't understand it completely but Blake's no eyebrowed Mystery Man was the best character in the movie.
I think of Lynch and Cronenberg in the same breath: very esoteric directors who have carved out a specific fan base.
My favorite Cronenberg film of all time will always be "Videodrome." Seeing Debbie Harry burn her tit with a cigarette is burned into my mind forever. An all torture pirate cable tv channel in Pittsburgh? I wonder if any of the victims/models were ever invisiblem?
Long live the new flesh!

Heh. I momentarily forgot that Cronenburg made a Crash too. I was referring to the overrated Best Picture winner from last year. The equally overrated Brokeback Mountain would've probably been a less-confusing comparison.Bizzarofelice wrote:Cronenberg's Crash? I really liked this movie. In an admittedly weak year for movies, I thought it was the best of the year.
William Hurt was pretty annoying, but I thought everyone else did a pretty good job, acting-wise. Predictable? I guess that depends on how much you knew about the movie going in.
Regardless, I think it's an interesting commentary on the relationship between violence and "family values."

It wasn't horrible but it was missing something. I don't know exactly what it was missing but something just wasn't there.

It was Rosanna Arquette, wasn't it? Most disturbing part of that is if you know what was really happening (from reading book). He was actually having sex with her scar, not her Vag.Invictus wrote:Seeing Jennifer Tilly get fucked while wearing a backbrace was oddly kinky and creepy, a trait Cronenberg is famous for. Seeing Debra Kara Unger naked most of the film was great though

finally watched it.
The sex scenes were hot the graphic violence was cool, the dorky kid kicking the school bullys ass was a good moment.
the rest of the film was a crashing bore. The ending was especially terrible. Why this film was nominated for anything puzzles me.
