Probably the most imperialistic President we ever had, and some modern writers who are readers of history are describing our President as a person who is very McKinley'esque in the way he views the world.

Just wanted to throw that in for folks who think that every thing we go through is the first time it ever happened in our history :)

Cheney and others have made it their mission to bring opacity and power to the Executive Branch. They clearly fell that they are above the law, and that they are able to operate freely on their own agendas, rather than holding the needs of Americans up as their primary goal.

A president should be accountable. Our forefathers were wise to set this nation up with checks and balances. There are three branches that need to visit upon the leadership of this nation - Executive, Judicial, and Representative. Stop fucking around, assholes.

Thing is, whether or not the sky is really falling...Bush is just working within the means of the Executive Branch. There is a lot of lee way there. Someone earlier mentioned that there was some imperilistic thing that Bush had introduced. He didn't do that, that's why I brought up the McKinley example. The President has a lot of power at his command up to interpretation of the Constitution that some choose to push and some don't. Our President at this time just seems to push the limits, but they are all within the limits given him. He's not as stupid as people think, but that doesn't mean he's smart. He's just smart enough to not cross the Constitutional line.

I voted for him, twice even. But I don't like the way he has chosen to run this country or communicate with this country, and after a few years...I don't trust what he does or listen much to what he says. I think he is a shallow thinker who thinks just because he has a good idea that it will happen that way,and has no idea how to follow through. I think we have seen enough to know what kind of follow through he is capable of.

Is the sky falling? No, not even close. But I wouldn't give our President the credit for it. I would rather credit the resilience of our democracy that he is governing for a short time.

The world is a scarier place now than it was when Mckinley was president. Fanatics have the transportation means, the weaponry, and the communication methods to wreak havoc around the globe. Having a president who is more invested in his own version of reality rather than what is best for the US and it's citizens only puts us more at risk. We are not safer now than we were 3 years ago, and Bush is primarly responsible for that. We are pouring our resources into the sand in iraq, and terrorism is still a worldwide problem we can't solve there.
