Finding a strong enough candidate has nothing to do with it. There are certain areas of the country that will historically vote party lines, regardless of the candidate.

You're putting the cart before the horse. Parties refuse to run good candidates in areas they feel they cannot perform well in. This enhances the perception that those seats are "safe". That's one of the reasons why the best thing for our democracy would be to have 100% publicly financed elections with no private money allowed. That way, a good candidate who is able to drum up the necessary number of petition signatures is not beholden to a party structure that would rather he wasn't running in the first place.

My bad. the plane actually is old school kenedy kryptonite. Remember it was one that started all this kennedy carnage during ww2.

As a resident of Rhode Island I can say there are two reasons for him still being elected everytime:

#1--This state is liberal to the core. People vote for the "D" next to the name and that is it. The democratic candidate for Prez will always win our crappy 4 electoral votes. The only republican congress member in RI is Lincoln Chaffee and we all know why he won. Hell the republicans want him out because he is so far left. Pretty much a waste of time for a republican to vote in this state. Didn't even bother to vote for Prez this last time......

#2--Little state syndrome. Rhode Island has an inferiority complex and therefore feels that by having a "Kennedy" as a rep that makes it special.

It disgusts me to the core to know that this guy represents my home state. Jack Reid who is our Democratic Senator I actually like. Kennedy needs to go though........
