Most likely you do not have a secure network. Does your company have an IT guy?IndyFrisco wrote:Ok, so all my ports state Closed but Unsecure. I'm using my work connection which I thought was pretty damn secure.
How am I supposed to protect against this? I'm more interested in my home computer than my work one.

This may help...IndyFrisco wrote:I work in a company of 9000 employees. We have 200 people in Corporate IT, myself included. I'm a data warehouse developer thoguh. I know very little about hardware and networking. I would have imagined we had a pretty secure network though...

Ok, sent it to the main networking guy. Makes sense now.
Most of the activity that can occur on these ports would be blocked from our network hardware appliances which generally watch for traffic on these common ports. If it notices unusually high levels on any of these ports it notifies someone in Network to take action. Most of these ports are closed normally but need to be unblocked for possible use so we can’t permanently block them.
If you are noticing these ports periodically opening and other weird events occurring then you need to log that with the help desk. But like I said normally the network appliances should catch any unusual traffic and report it to the Network team.
Not sure if this answers your question or not. Generally speaking I don’t run these tools because I’m not sure of the vendors but sometimes they are legitimate and providing a good free service.

That doesn't really address the security issue, or lack thereof.
Before I got my cel phone modem thingy, It wasn't that hard to find a business with an unsecured network. It ain't legal to steal bandwidth, but it ain't very hard to do it, either. There are three unsecured networks in my neighborhood I could surf on if I wanted to.

Well, you can find out who is on the network by typing the default gateway into the address bar.Mister Bushice wrote:That doesn't really address the security issue, or lack thereof.
