Smack Off

I'm stuck at home waiting for the TV repairman to show up at 5:00 for my 1-4PM appointment. Entertainment options are limited. Anybody else listening to this?

IMO, Rachel had the best call. Which means she probably won't win.

my choice Greg in Vegas

I only heard the winning call at the end of the show.

Best line......

"Hey Shawn Marion, Michael J Fox called and he wants his jump shot from Teen Wolf back"

Holy hell I busted out on that one!! I wish I coulda heard them all though. Oliver gettin run at the end was classic. Unless you're talking about birds, it's a safe bet that use of the word "swallow" will get you run every time. Still funny though.

While somewhat obscure, Greg in Vegas' line about "The Justin Strelyzck School of Defensive Driving" was excellent, as well as Reggie Bush's family staying at Terrence's house.

Also, the blast about Charles Spencer turning Carr into a moon made me bwahaha.

I didn't realize so many still listened to Rome.

I don't mainly because I don't get the show in my area. Not sure if I would though. It would be nice to have an alternative to ESPN radio though.

I agree, Greg in Vegas should have won, but Cabs was pretty funny.

Speaking of Teen Wolf, expect Holywood to remake this flick with an "American Pie" style cast and theme. jtr will invariably be a fly on the wall in one scene.

Concur with Greg in Vegas. Hands down, one of his best calls ever. Cabs was damn funny, maybe his best line came at the end when he called back.

I laffed when dude was talking about how "Brian Cashman's eyes are permanently surrounded by chocolate doughnuts and how he always has that scared look on his face like he just saw C.C. Sabathia get out of the shower..."

BWA!!!

I missed the Greg in Vegas call. Someone post a link to where I can hear it.

I thought Cabs was so so. I always figured past winners were held to higher standards and therefore it is harder to repeat?

I thought the kid in Idaho had a good call going till Rome cut him off.....

How did that Oran guy from Denver do? I heard that guy getting "pimped" all year long as a favorite to win.

^^^^^^he didn't flame, but the call was weak. Not bad for a rook.

I cracked up at that one, especially because he had some guy yelling in the background.

I'm actually surprised that ANY of you still listen to that jerk. I feel cheap just posting in this thread.

Greg in Vegas was robbed. Cabalanasian must have the reach-around-line.

Greg should have won today.

More importantly ..... the fucking Smack Off should be taken to the vet and given the needle. 12th Smack Off? Seems more like its maturing in dog years to me.

Image
Hey Clones! Greetings, welcome to the 84th Smack Off! :meds:

Good thing its only once a year.

If this dog must hunt for a few more years, it sure as all hell needs to be moved to a different time of the year. Oct, Nov, Dec not available? It would be nice to actually have something from the NFL as a timely topic for a change.

However, in the interest of saving everyones time, the real king of smack title should be awarded during the year in review, from the single best call of the year.

Saving everyones time?

It's all about the ratings bro. Otherwise it would still be on Good Friday.

Hate on the Rome show all you want...I often do - but the Smack Off is the last vestige of what made the show great. I detest the Rome interviews, and the spittle slathering that surrounds them. There's not a lot of funny smack on the show. One show a year, though, has some great smack, and it provides several hearty laughs.

Agreed.

I typically only get the last 30 minutes during my lunch break. The Smack Off is worth listening to as it's good for more than a few laughs.

What's the alternative to Rome......DP and that f'ing moron Oberman who thinks he's God's gift to comedic timing? Not much of an option in So Cal.

Second.

It's also nice to hear some of the old vernacular (Rachel used a lot of it) that made the show great in the past, which Rome rarely, if ever, uses these days.

It's a bit of a struggle for Rome to use the old vernacular, or talk for that matter, when he has NASCAR's balls hanging from his chin.
