i used to have the squirrel bait EP in high school....i guess i just lost track of what was what.
another band from Louisville was Kinghorse--i had their record that was produced by Glen Danzig. it was kinda metal bad brains-ish. i kinda dug it.

Good little of cluster of musicians in Louisville. Will Oldham took the pic for the cover of Spiderland.

my memory may escape me because I haven't really listened to that stuff for a while. A couple of the other ear x-tacy bands would be:
aforementioned Rodan
Bardo Pond
Bastro
King King Kong King King King Kong Kong
For Carnation
Rachel's
Big Wheel (Peter Searcy)
I knew little of Palace until Will opened for the Big Star reunion. I was big time down. That first album still gets spins at the Felice household. Sad to say I stopped paying much attention after the Hope EP.
As for Rodan, check out the link below and listen to the third song, The Everyday World Of Bodies. Good album, but I freaking loved this one song. Its like Slint but with Shellac's venom. DL it or get it somehow:

Love Will Oldham. Don't forget about My Morning Jacket!

Whenever Slint gets mentioned I have to bring up Heavy Vegetable. It was the first band for Rob Crow (of Pinback), and very much influenced by Slint.

Squirrel Bait was pretty amazing, Ben Daughtrey's drumming was so incredible for that time period.
