Search still on for body of Grove man presumed drowned

BERNICE -- Efforts to recover the body of a Grove man who is presumed to have drowned in Grand Lake continued Thursday.

Juan Sergio Gallaredo Rodriguez, 20, is presumed to have drowned after a personal watercraft he was riding stalled Monday, said Justin Alberty, a spokesman for the Grand River Dam Authority.

Gallaredo, an employee of the El Vallarta Mexican restaurant in Grove, was among a group of people who had gathered Monday at Bernice State Park to mark the "Day Without Immigrants," when immigrants were encouraged to take off work and boycott businesses.

"It was supposed to be just a bunch of friends getting together, making a peaceful expression," said Jose Reyes, a friend of Rodriguez's who also works at the restaurant.

"There were about 16 of us that got together on Monday at the park, following along with the activists, promoting the immigration reform -- but mostly, just friends getting together," Reyes said.

A prayer service for Rodriguez was held Wednesday, he said.

Rodriguez and Graciela Lopez, also of Grove, were attempting to swim to shore after the personal watercraft they had been riding stalled, Alberty said.

Lopez, who was wearing a life jacket, was able to swim to shore. Rodriguez reportedly was not wearing a life jacket.

They did, indeed, recover his body. The first boating victim of the "Day Without Immigrants," perhaps?

I'm sure there's been plenty of traffic and/or shooting fatalities.

Hilarious
