I'm leavin' my fam'ly
Leavin' all my friends
My body's at home
But my heart's in the wind
Where the clouds are like headlines
On a new front page sky
My tears are salt water
And the moon's full and high

And I know Martin Eden's
Gonna be proud of me
And many before me
Who've been called by the sea
To be up in the crow's nest
Singin' my say
Shiver me Timbers
'Cause I'm a-sailin' away

And the fog's liftin'
And the sand's shiftin'
I'm driftin' on out
Ol' Captain Ahab
He ain't got nothin' on me, now.
So swallow me, don't follow me
I'm trav'lin' alone
Blue water's my daughter
'n I'm gonna skip like a stone

So please call my missus
Gotta tell her not to cry
'Cause my goodbye is written
By the moon in the sky
Hey and nobody knows me
I can't fathom my stayin'
Shiver me timbers
'Cause I'm a-sailin' away

And the fog's liftin'
And the sand's shiftin'
I'm driftin' on out
Ol' Captain Ahab
He ain't got nothin' on me
So come and swallow me, follow me
I'm trav'lin' alone
Blue water's my daughter
'n I'm gonna skip like a stone

And I'm leavin' my family
Leavin' all my friends
My body's at home
But my heart's in the wind
Where the clouds are like headlines
Upon a new front page sky
And shiver me timbers
'Cause I'm a-sailin' away

If you were half a man you would go crab fishing in Alaska in December.

I am sure the crew will have you walking the plank after one day.

Nice job, all.

Believe me, I laugh at all of this too. Especially knowing more than likely even a macho man of the world like Luther would be wimpering to go home the instant land was out of sight. Just think what someone like Mvscal would do. :P

The weather was extremely shitty virtually the entire trip. Nothing but gale force winds and heavy seas of 18-24 ft swells from the time we got beyond the Stonington breakwall. Any among you think you can handle that for more than a few hours, let alone a few days of constant pounding? It a tough reintro, but I remember worse. But of course, we worked through it. That boat's as solid as any.

The catch was very meager. We were shooting for whiting and squid and didn't take very much from the canyons out around the 100 fathom line: Block and Atlantis Canyon. After a day and a half of that misery, we then decided to shoot over to Nantucket and try there, but the bag ripped off the net on our first haul this morning and we had no choice but to come back in.

Not a good trip. Far from the 18,000 pounds of whiting we were hoping for and the good market price it would've brought due to the few boats that'll go out there in this kind of weather.

All in all it was tiring but fun. At least we ate well while we're out there. My equllibrium is all fucked tonight, of course. I could barely stand in my shower a few minutes ago with my eyes closed without grabbing hold of the side of the wall.

If you go back to the Vent days... who hated Luther the most? Yep.

Sooooo. There ends the storry of terdowned. Bad for Canada yet you give us Steve Nash?

Good reads like Rootqueer and velo, were a "staple." It was darkness, but it was scathing and all were ripped apart. Some understood but that was before the cordless days.

Fuck... that is not what we wanted to hear. We wanted to hear about a man overboard and not found.

Darwinsim fails us again.

Sounds like fun Owentodd.

Ignore the haters, my man. Most of the guys on this board wouldn't have the balls to change a career, and try something new. They'd rather bitch about those that do, as opposed to themselves that dont. I think I would lose my mind if I had to do just one thing my whole life, and never take risks.

As I've said before... I think you and AP have more in common than you guys would like to admit.

Good luck, and congrats on getting out of a job you hated.

I was going to take a different route from Luth, and post something in response like, "Nah, most of us here would rather you just lose a few fingers to a cop of the monkfish world. Then we'll all laugh at you."

But upon reflection, Luth beat me to it. Hopefully, you've got a gun on that boat, Todd, or will be bringing one with you when you "embark."

We can hardly wait.

I highly doubt that you were on a ferry, much less any f/v.

And if you did any fishing, it was more like this....

Commercial fishing is a pretty tough way to make a living. It's not for everyone. It's dangerous. And there are times when you'll put a lot of effort in for little or no pay. But at least I'm around good friends now. And there are times when it can pay well.

And yeah.....probably something close to 100% of the pipsqueeks that make up the world of Jim Rome message board posters would make their first stop on returning to port at their doctor for a dose of meds for extreme duress and mental exhaustion.

Why, I'll bet these pussies would would shrivel and shiver at the sight of a monkfish.....let alone having to handle one.
