Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jimmy Smith has decided to retire from the NFL after 12 seasons. He has reportedly told head coach Jack Del Rio of his decision. The Jaguars are expected to hold a press conference Thursday, May 11, unless Smith has a last-minute change of heart.

Is he headed to Canton?

Just take a look at his stats...

Art Monk needs to be let in before he does.

I agree Art Monk should be in the Hall... but were talking about Jimmy Smith, and he has nothing to do with Art Monk.

When voting, should they have a... only if Art is in next to Jimmy Smith's name?

I'm asking if you think Jimmy Smith should be in. I myself would have to go with yes if I had a vote.

sorry but if the games on the line and I need a clutch reception made I want Jerry Rice, Torry Holt,Randy moss or even Steve Largent before I take Smith.

He was good but not great.

Better numbers than Michael Irvin but not as deadly (seemingly) as Michael Irvin. You didn't gameplan around Smith as you might have around Irvin. Tough call. I think they should both be in the Hall.

Yes, but first....next to Art Monks' name should be, only if Otis Taylor's in.

I think Smith will get in but it wont be till at least his 6-7th year of eligibility. He isnt a first ballot but his stats are still very good and they are better than Swann or Stallsworth. I know, I know Swann was a postseason badass, but reg season stats Smith has him.

Smith has no rings either so that kinda hurts him in the Vs. Stallworth/Swann debate.

Jimmy was good and I think I would vote yes.....

Patsy are you ok??????

He quietly had a great career but I don't know if I'd consider him one of the all-time greats at WR. He's kind of the Curtis Martin of receivers...a fairly-durable guy who very quietly posted great career numbers.

C. Martin is a GREAT player.
First ballot HoFamer.
He's likely going to end his career as the 2nd or 3rd all time rusher.
Oh, and Martin also has over 3000 receiving yards for his career.

Jimmy Smith doesn't belong in the same breath with Curtis Martin.

If Smith gets in then what about the great Irving Fryar, who had as many catches as Smith, and more yards...?

I think that since he didnt play for San Fran or California that you probably save your masturbatory juices for other players....correct?

:meds:

He had the exact same number of catches for the Cowboys during those years as I did.
Yeah but you didn't wear the uniform and you didn't go to all the practices like the summer two-a-days and all that shit. That's some intense shit, dude. Plus he was helping out the qbs in practice during the year, helping the other receivers like Irvin and those dudes break down film. It's a 53 man roster and every player counts. Rack Jimmy Smith for his rings.

Aikman, Smith and Irvin didn't need any 'help' those years, especially from the 4th-5th WR on the team. No HOF for Smith.
