alright, i'm having a problem here. i just got a sick sick arcade fire bootleg that i got off bt.arcadefire.net. here are the programs i am using:

dvd shrink to make an ISO file of the show
CopyToDVD to burn the ISO file to disc.

i burned the dvd to a dvd-r and it plays just fine on my computer.

BUT! when i try to play it on my component dvd player, i get this message: "playback prohibited by area limitations." what is this? i know if you bought a DVD in europe and tried to play it in the US, it wouldn't work. but this is just a video recording of a french TV feed that was posted online, it was turned into an official boot or issued on a disc in europe or anything.

the second time i did it, i used dvd decrypter to "decrypt" the bootleg, thinking that might take care of the problem. but no. i have a shins bootleg that my friend burned for me that works just fine on my component dvd player using the same programs.

if anyone could help, i'd appreciate it.

here are the boot files if it helps:

VIDEO_TS (ifo file)
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0 (ifo file)
VTS_01_0.bup
VTS_01_0.vob
VTS_01_1.vob (1 gig)
VTS_01_2.vob (1 gig)
VTS_01_3.vob (817 mb)

This should do the trick: http://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/166237.php

Or pick up one of these which will play just about any disc or video format you can throw at it.

Did you try this? In DVD Shrink, after loading the files and clicking the Backup button, a window will appear.

One of the tabs should say "DVD Region". Check the box 'Region Free'. This will make your disc playable on any DVD player. It worked for me on a DVD I bought that was the European region only.

His issue has nothing to do with region since it's a bootleg. It's a PAL encoded disc which won't work in his NTSC DVD player.

d, have you used ISObuster and that link to convert from PAL to NTSC before? how long did it take you? i don't do a lot of this, yet.

I seem to recall that the DVD I had this same issue with was also PAL, but I'll check.

No, I've never had the need since my player accepts PAL discs.

I just noticed that I posted the wrong link (it's the guide to convert an SVCD, not DVD) but if you do a search on VideoHelp you should find the guide you're looking for. I really don't know of any easy way to do the conversion.

I checked my disc and the original says a similar message when I put it in the player. When I put in the COPY with the regions stripped, it plays fine. Also, the original is a PAL disc.

Could you do me a favor and TRY the DVD Shrink again to see if my suggestion makes a difference? I'm trying to get the same torrent you have, but they must have stopped seeding it because it's taking a long time, so I can't try it myself.
