Nice vid, but no comparison?
Not yet, anyway.
Pretty sure Barbaro will be facing more than 4 competitors in this years Belmont.
Not to take anything away from Secretariot, that horse was legendary and ahead of his time, but I don't think he was running against the likes of the current crop of competition, especially Brother Derek.

Zyclone is right in a way. There is no comparison and one shouldn't even be made, other than that they both could be Triple Crown winners.
Zy just puts it in a proper historical perspective, and I have no problem with that. Just saying that Secretariot ran that Belmont in record time, when he didn't have to. That horse beside him wasn't a closer, and basically quit once he knew he was beat.
Barbaro may yet win the Triple Crown, and whether it's by a nose or a furlong, the accomplishment will still rate the same.

did secretariat race much after his triple crown, or was he considered too valuable as a stud to race him?
What has his progeny done?
What stands out in my rather fuzzy memory was the way that fukking horse just flat out loved to haul ass. If my memory serves me correctly, Cauthen, or whoever the midget was, never had to put the crop to him. It was more or less just a case of 'hold the fukk on, midget, it's showtime'. What was the closest of his triple crown races? Not that they were races. Didn't he win one of them by thirty something lengths?
How do his time compare to today's horses? I know he pretty much pwn3d the record books back then, but, I assume those records have been surpassed as training techniques and 'roid errrr nutrition improves. Or am I wrong.

Sham didnt quite he broke a bone in his foot and was retired after the race and went on the be a decent sire. He has as good a shot at the TC as anyone. This will be his big test. I agree with Adel that is weak and he is the best of the lot. That being said Afeelt Alex is the one horse who should have won the TC out of all the near misses since 78 except for the Bid.War Wagon wrote:Why?Sky wrote:You are a fucking idiotZyclone wrote:

Secretariat raced well into his 3 year old year.losing 2 races both started witha W and winning and setting more then a few track and world records.smackaholic wrote:did secretariat race much after his triple crown, or was he considered too valuable as a stud to race him?

You cant compare time and in 73 claiming horses were breaking track records that year.
Cauthen was Affirmeds jock and he more then had to put the whip to him, infact if he hadent gone to the left hand whip in the belmont Alydar would have won that race.
Secs closest race was the derby were he beat sham by 2 and a half running in 159 and change setting a track record. His finestg race imo was his preakness, he went from last to first going into the first turn in about 100 yards.
Sec at stud was alittle dissapointing. He did Sire Ladys Secret how was HOY and as a broodmare sire he was great. His daughters produced some great horses AP Indy being on of them.
Look at the X factor
http://www.wmo1011.addr.com/research_x_factor.htm
Measurements of more than 400 horses with a ECG has found that the X-Factor is 100% consistent. It is possible to track the large heart from sire to daughter to granddaughter and grandson and to great granddaughter and great grandson. The heart scores on certain lines are 100% consistent. These lines come from Princequillo, War Admiral, Blue Larkspur, and Mahmoud. These 4 lines make up the Saratoga Equine Genetics Reference System.
