I am burning some MPEG's to CD's and having no trouble replaying them on my 'puter but my DVD player hooked to my TV 'says' it plays MPG's. I am burning the disc's using Media Player and burning as a data disc.
is this right?
also, is there anyway to compress the files I burn to save disc space?
I know I need to buy a DVD burner, but hey.

Your DVD player may be capable of only playing standard compliant MPEG-1 and MPEG-2
files.
DivX capable players are everywhere these days, and they're dirt cheap.

Well, Windows XP has a built-in compression tool...should be in your right-click menu.
Having said that, video doesn't compress very well. It won't shrink much in size.
If you need to split up video files, I suggest VirtualDub.

I don't need to split up files really. I am using the standard 700MB discs. are there larger capacity CD R/W discs I can buy? or can I buy DVD discs but write on them w/ my CD writer?

There are 90 and 99 minute CD-R's available if your burner supports them...
...but yeah, DVD burners are cheap these days.
TitL, go ahead and use WinZip if you like. You wont see much compression.
