If it's the former why not enlighten us as to how he influenced other drummers. What did he do that hadn't been done before? Obviously he was a member of the most influential band in rock and roll history, so there must have been many drummers who tried to play like him in order to sound like the Beatles. But I don't see him having a signature sound that was worthy of copying.
