Bengals pick Nicholson, Rouse charged in alleged theft
By Joe Schad
Special to ESPN.com

Two former Florida State football players have been charged with stealing electronic equipment worth approximately $1,700 from the home of a current player, Tallahassee Police told ESPN on Wednesday.

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker A.J. Nicholson and former wide receiver Fred Rouse, who was dismissed by coach Bobby Bowden at the end of last season for detrimental conduct, are charged with burglarizing the Tallahassee home of current Florida State running back Lorenzo Booker on May 20 or 21.

Rouse confessed his involvement to authorities on May 28, according to police. Rouse was arrested and charged with three felonies: burglary of a dwelling, grand theft and unrelated possessions of a controlled substance without a prescription, which was ecstasy. Rouse has been released on bond.

A warrant is out for the arrest of Nicholson, who faces felony charges of burglary of a dwelling and grand theft and criminal mischief, which is a misdemeanor.

"Obviously, Lorenzo's not really happy that his former teammates, Rouse and Nicholson, did this," Tallahassee Police Public Information Officer John Newland said. "This incident occurred May 20 and A.J. was drafted in April. You knew you were leaving. Why would you put yourself through this? It's just really unfortunate."

A police source said that among the items investigators found at Booker's home was a wide receivers glove with "1," Rouse's former jersey number, stitched into the inside of it. The glove had been left under a color television that had been thrown onto the floor.

Entrance to the home, police said, was made by breaking a rear window. In gaining entry, the suspects appeared to cut themselves as they left blood there and on one of Bookers' roommate's sheets. Police later found drops of blood at the exterior of the home of Nicholson's girlfriend.

In a sworn, taped interview on May 28, Rouse said Nicholson entered the home and carried out two portable stereos, a DVD player and a pair of headphones. Rouse also said Nicholson had sustained a substantial cut on a finger.

Nicholson, who was accused of a sexual assault in Miami and sent home from the Orange Bowl, was selected by the Bengals in the fifth round. Nicholson, who has pleaded no contest to a DUI arrest and had another incident with Tallahassee police that led to dropped charges of resisting arrest, has not been charged in the sexual assault case.

Rouse, one of the nation's top freshman prospects last season, and a native of Tallahassee, had only six catches for 114 yards and one touchdown. Rouse also returned 11 punts for 97 yards and six kickoffs for 107 yards.

Saw that on espn.com. Almost posted it but thought it more as beating a dead rouse...er...horse.

They arent associated w/ FSU anymore, so not FSU's problem. Rouse was kicked off the team 3 months ago and AJ was suspended for his last game.

2 pieces of shit though.

Almost Killian, almost.

Rouse is a piece of shit. I hope he has a horrible future.

Nicholson is just a moron. He just got drafted. Why is he breaking into his former teammates house?

Each played their most recent college game with FSU, therefor, they are still associated with FSU.

Yeah, I don't understand the "they no longer play for my team so their misdeeds are not a reflection upon us" train of thought.

When former players of your favorite team kick ass in the NFL, seems most fans like to thump their chest about how they "represent our program".

Can't have it both ways.

Oh I am not saying that it doesnt look bad, but isnt FSU's fault in itself. If they were still on the team than the coaching staff should take heat.

At least its two prior offenders and not two new trouble makers.

The only "heat" on the coaches part should be for allowing those pieces of shit to join the program in the first place.

I feel Nicholson reflects FSU but not rouse. Nicholson left to the NFL representing FSU. Rouse got kicked off because he is a no good piece of shit.

So by all means frisco lets here some "How many noles does it take to wrap up Nicholson's bloody hand?" jokes.

But Rouse does not represent FSU anymore. He was kicked off the team and was heading to either UTEP or LSU last time I heard. Who do we joke on about Randy Moss? FSU, ND, or Marshall?

FSU has a history of having Criminoles. Everytime something like this happens it is a reflection on the school, even though those to were not asociated with the program, people still like to fall back on FSU...just because.

Also, just because they got into FSU doesn't mean the FSU coaches are poor judges of character. I've seen plenty of good kids turn into raging drug addicts or lazy ass losers as soon as they get out of mommy and daddy's home and hit the college atmosphere...

Stealing from Booker is just bizarre...apparently they didn't like him...makes you wonder what the rest of the team thinks... :?:

Does this surprise anyone?

FSU probably has the worst track record of any school over the last ten years. They don't exactly recruit character. I mean Rouse was actually kicked off the team. Do you know what it takes to get kicked off FSU's team?

This is the kicker........

"As for Nicholson, the charges are the latest in a string of brushes with the law. Nicholson, 21, was accused of sexual assault in Miami before the Orange Bowl and sent home. He has not been charged. However, Nicholson was arrested twice by the Tallahassee Police Department prior to the season, once in January 2005 for a DUI and again in June for trespassing and resisting arrest. In the second arrest, an officer used a Tazer device to subdue Nicholson when he refused to obey commands.

Nicholson accepted a plea agreement, settling both cases in August, including a fine, community service and six months' probation. He did not miss any playing time as a result of those arrests and started all 12 games last season, leading the Seminoles in tackles for the second consecutive season."

That's pathetic. Just the same ole FSU looking the other way. He had to rape someone to get sent home. I remember SOS kicking a kid OFF THE TEAM that got in a fight at a team dinner with another player. Candy coat it however you want but FSU is thug U.

Ol' Felonious Coles didn't seem to have a problem working his way through the FSU "curriculum", so i don't see what 's the problem here, dadgummit.

Yes. the gates are alot better....

What team had a coach go to a frat house to continue a fight?

Hey trix, your team wil always be third. Without the Noles and the Canes, no one would even give two fucks about your school.

Third?

We're number one in athletics and academics. It's not close.

You really don't want this........

That's funny. Spurrier won an ACC title at Duke.

T Rex you guys are third. The last two times you played Miami they beat you, and prior to our little 2 game skid, we had won 4 out of 5. Throw in that Miami has 5 Titles, we have 2 and you have 1, that makes you guys third.

I dont know how this turned into a pissing contest between Florida schools, but take a national poll and Miami comes in 1, FSU is 2 and UF is 3. You guys mattered on the National Scale from about 1990 - 2001. Not sufficient.

WHOA there little guy?

1990-2001?

You are fucking joking right?

Spurrier won a Heisman in the 60's. We have OWNED you since this series started. You had a decent run for a while but that is all changing. Like any series it shifts back and forth. Overall, UF has OWNED FSU and its not very close. And the current state of the team tips into UF's favor(we kicked the living shit out of you last year).

National poll? STFU. I bet you are wrong.

Not to mention you fucking guys have lost more games than we recently with your geriatric crew running your team into the ground. All that talent and FIVE losses. Too fucking funny.

Keep it real dude.

The myopia that is Florida fan. Its not worth debating since their head is to far up their ass. Unfortunately the football gods have not been good to UF/FSU the past 5 years , but since Spurrier left, UF and FSU have lost the same number of games. You guys might have had the early advantage being that your program existed long before ours, but since Bobby game to FSU 30 years ago, we have the better record and more National Championships. Miami is still king though. Both schools have some catching up to do.

Florida leads 29-19-2

Take whatever stat you want to bend to fit your opinion.

Bottom line....UF leads the series by a decade dude. BODE, bode, bode.

Slice it, dice it, rationalize it, or cry about it. UF>fsu

Tough eh?

Not to mention the upswing in our favor right now. We will be a better team than you next year too. Does that guarantee a win? Of course not, but we have recruited well and Urban has the team going in the right direction. Not to mention the discipline. I haven't seen the Sun this quiet in years concerning football players.

cicero: Don't know if you get the Trib but one of your fans is crying to the editor about the Rouse/Nicholson story on the Sports Page and how it adversely affects recruiting and the FSU image. He then goes on to say that the story should be in the Metro section because they don't attend FSU anymore.

Editor blisters said seminole by asking how a story about two former FSU players rob a CURRENT FSU player is not sports news. Then goes on to tell fsufan to wonder what the hell is going on in Tally.

Pretty funny.

Just answer me trixy. Before the Noles and Canes started dominating in the 80s, Did the nation even notice there was football in the state of florida? Miami was thinking about dropping the sport. FSU was a just 30 years into the game. The gates had been around a while and won how many conference titles?

Like I said, without FSU and Miami, no one would even know about football in the state of florida.

Well, not sure if you noticed the SEC is well......the SEC. Your ACC and Big East repectively couldn't hold a candle to the SEC back then. Not even close.
