What are ya hearing up there about this ?

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay's first-round pick in 2005, has yet to provide a whole lot of encouragement that he could be even an adequate replacement when Favre finally does step aside. In taking the lion's share of offseason snaps, Rodgers isn't making much of an impression with his arm strength, although his delivery has looked a little less awkward than it did during his rookie year. So far, the buzz among Packers players is uncertainty over whether Rodgers has the goods to be the future starter.

Maybe someday, GMs will wisen up, and stop throwing big money at unproven rookie QBsSUP NINERS .

Rodgers may have cost them $7 million less dollars than Smith , but the problem was that nobody was willing to trade for the #1 pick last draft .

A lot of draft boards wrote that Rodgers was more Pro ready than Smith , but had less upside .

Outside of the signing bonus , a lot of the fat of Smith's contract doesn't kick in until his 3rd or 4th year .

A lot of GB training camp news hasn't been all that positive of Rodgers lately though .

Those guys either went to a team with a high-end QB and tioled in anonymity, or they spent all of their early years running from defensive linemen like it was a death race.

Poor Akili never had A CHANCE. Good thing he can scramble so well...otherwise he would never be able to put his grandchildren on his knee and tell them about his short stint in the NFL.

Easy to toss Joey under the bus, since he was the most visible face and highest paid guy on one of the worst teams in recent memory. As much of a Joey fan as I am to this day, they still overpaid his unproven ass.


AJ -- spent his entire cereer to date as "the best backup QB in the NFL." When he did get his chance to start, he played for a team that could rival Detroit for "worst ever." When he served a stint as starter for the Eagles, he amassed a better record with the same team than Donovan McNabb did.

Rogers -- I won't toss dirt in his grave yet, but why they offered him anything but minimal money is beyond me. The ratio of big-name-college-NFL-flops to big-name successes is fairly small, on a regular basis. I don't understand trying to lock up an unproven performer long-term. Seems like a better financial move to try and find the Bradys-in-the-rough...they're always out there.

Kyle Boller is still a question mark on a team that is still a question mark .

The Steelers have drafted 3 QBs in the first round since 1970.

But...he's sporting jewelery. There is that. Guy became a star by doing nothing, except for not making mistakes. Gotta give him his props for playing the position with his brain, since his body wasn't worth much.

I think Rodgers was picked @ #17 overall .

Carr was #1 or #2 overall .

Boller was a first round choice .

So was Dilfer .

Outside of Dilfer ( who wasn't big time passer with the Ravens ) , picking a Tedford QB in the first round hasn't produced any homeruns yet .

I think these tedford Qb's need to go into the league thinking they aren't that good and they will achieve their maximum potential.

Dilfer, Smith, Harrington, Boller and Carr were all thrown to the wolves as rookies on teams with little or no offense. With the exception of Boller they were all top 6 picks and teams picking first usually suck for a reason. More to the curse than Tedford. AR will be the true test as he is being given the chance to develop correctly.

Actually, I've been reading reports that his accuracy has been pretty good on the short to intermediate stuff, but he has a tendency to overthrow the long bal.l Overall, the reports say he has a pretty solid grasp of the offense.

There's some other stuff over at ZBud's and PackerChatters, but outside of the latest article, most of the news coming out of the mini-camp and OTA has been positive. On the other hand, you never really know how much of this stuff is fluff until you see a guy on the field during a game.

I hope Rodgers grows into the position, but who really wants to be the QB that has to follow Favre in Green Bay? If you think us Packer fans are myopic about The Great Brett Favre now, wait until he's been retired a few years. We'll be telling stories about how he healed injured offensive linemen with a touch and ran downfield 90 yards and caught his own touchdown passes after turning Gatorade into beer and bestowing never-empying stadium cups on the faithful.
