Oh, so sorry...
the correct answer was "Derek Jeter.....Derek Jeter"....but we've got some lovely parting gifts for you, and thanks for playing.

But I think this is about to change. The dope on Big Papi is being passed around as to how to get him out. Jam him up and in, breaking pitches down and in. Everything else, you keep out of the strike zone. And once he comes to expect these pitches, you're going to see less of him standing comfortably in the B-box.
Papi's passed his prime. His strike out #'s are going to start to soar now while his RBI's will flatten out.
You might want to fill MLB pitchers in on this bit of genius. Apparently nobody is reading the book on him. OH and if you try to jam him inside he will launch that inside fastball into the stands. I watch this guy on a daily basis. He has no holes........

WRONG.
I also watch him on a daily basis. If it's an inside fastball that he lines past the Pesky Pole, then it wasn't inside enough. And he's been getting fooled by the slider quite a lot lately. Put those two pitches together with fastballs away from the strike zone and you can get him out. And it's going to get a lot easier to get Ortiz out from now on. You're seeing the end of the Big Papi 9th inning heroics.
Based on yesterday I say your wrong..........

Jeter deserves to be in this thread.. Pujols, too (if he weren't injured).
But when you talk about end of the game heroics in the last 3 years....
David Ortiz is the leader
Look up Clutch Hitter in Google and you will find.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clutch_hitter
David Ortiz is the only Active player that they highlight! Although the do mention Jeter..They Highlight Ortiz!
David Ortiz, Game 3 of the 2004 American League Division Series for the Boston Red Sox against the Anaheim Angels at Fenway Park. In the bottom of the tenth inning, with a 6-6 tie, Ortiz hit a walk off home run to win the game and complete the sweep of the Angels.
Game 4 of the American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees at Fenway Park. In the bottom of the twelfth inning, with a 4-4 tie, Ortiz hit another walk off home run. Had the Yankees won this game, it would have been a four-game sweep to prolong the Curse of the Bambino for at least another year.
Game 5 of the same series. At the bottom of the fourteenth inning, again with a 4-4 tie, Ortiz came up with two outs and Johnny Damon on second base. Belting a short single (viewers would later joke that it was only a single because his arms were tired from all his home run hitting), Ortiz allowed for Damon's impressive speed to carry him to home plate and score the winning run. The Red Sox would win the series, becoming the first Major League Baseball team to win a best of seven playoff after a deficit of three games to none, and would go on to win the 2004 World Series. Ortiz would later be honored with a plaque naming him as "The Greatest Clutch Hitter in Red Sox History."
and those are just 3 of the prominent ones...

BOSTON (AP) -- David Ortiz hit his
9th career walkoff homer*** after Jonathan Papelbon pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief and the Boston Red Sox beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 in 10 innings Saturday.
With one out and Alex Cora on first with a single, Ortiz hit a 2-2 pitch from Tom Gordon (2-3) into the center-field bleachers and his teammates poured out of the dugout. Papelbon waved a towel over his head at home plate as the excited players awaited Ortiz's arrival.
Boston won its season-high eighth straight game as Ortiz produced a win this month for the second time on the last at-bat of the game. He also did it in the opener of a doubleheader against Texas on June 11.

Is that what I said, bitch? This thread is about the clutch players, and I'm not putting someone hitting 264 up at the plate. Fact is, the Red Sox leave too many games close if a 264 player has heroics.
Actually, Cardsfan doesn't have much room for a 264 hitter making his kinda money with no glove. We got some other guy at first.

YES!!! He does it yet again!

July 31, 2006...
Two outs from defeat, the Red Sox instead staged one of their most memorable comebacks of the season, turning the tables on the Indians in the bottom of the ninth and producing a riveting 9-8 victory before a packed house at Fenway Park on Monday.
The Red Sox entered their last at-bat down by two runs. Alex Cora led off with a single to right, and Kevin Youkilis followed with a walk. The stage was set for Mr. Clutch, David Ortiz, who delivered yet again. Big Papi struck a walk-off homer to center off Indians reliever Fausto Carmona, setting off yet another mob scene at home plate, as a sea of white jerseys jumped all over Ortiz.
It was Ortiz's second game-ending hit in three days and fifth this season.
"You've got to do what you've got to do," Ortiz said.

Big Papi is off the charts. I'll sort of change my pick...I'll take Pujols for the 1st through 8th innings but I'll take Ortiz in the 9th inning with the game on the line. There's no doubt in my mind that Ortiz will repeat as AL MVP...even if he doesn't play another game the rest of the season.
