80 balls for 1000 yards in Belichick's offense is like 100 balls for 1500 yards in a Mike Martz scheme. The Pats spread the ball around and don't let any one reciever become "the guy". Branch knows this and either wants to get paid what he would in a reciever friendly system or get the hell out of New England and on a team that will use him as the #1 guy.Cicero wrote:I know he won a SB MVP but so hasnt Larry Brown and Dexter Jackson. He had 78 catches for not even a 1000 yards and 5 TD. He might have been a little banged up, but I dont see how this guy thinks he is underpaid when he is making over a million a season. Come out this year w/ a chip on your shoulder and catch over 80 balls w/ over a 1000 yards and you will get paid.
He may, but not that many more. And even if he does, he's not going to get paid the way he thinks he should. Not by New England that is. Branch is 27 and he knows that the closer he gets to 30, the lower his odds of breaking the bank are.Cicero wrote:I think w/ Givens leaving and Troy Brown another year older, he is going to see a lot more passes thrown his way.
What the fuck are you talking about?BSmack wrote:80 balls for 1000 yards in Belichick's offense is like 100 balls for 1500 yards in a Mike Martz scheme.
Just saying that your chances of seeing someone put up Torry Holt like numbers in New England's system are pretty fucking slim.Bizzarofelice wrote:What the fuck are you talking about?BSmack wrote:80 balls for 1000 yards in Belichick's offense is like 100 balls for 1500 yards in a Mike Martz scheme.
It's hard to say. He's the same size as Santana Moss and Steve Smith. And he seems to be able to get open. Why not?Neely8 wrote:I like Deion and all but do you really think he would be a #1 in anybodys system? Thats why the Pats won't pay him like one......

Then again, it really doesn't matter. My point is that the Pats spread the ball around like no other. They had a QB who threw for 4100 yards and not a single receiver broke the 1000 yard mark. Brady also threw 26 touchdowns and not one receiver had more than 5 of them. It's just not a system where a clear cut "star" is going to emerge from the ranks of their receivers unless a whole bunch of guys start suffering some season ending injuries. Whether Branch is or is not a true #1 guy is immaterial. He obviously thinks he is and knows that the Patriots are not going to make it happen for him.
3-4 I think they would consider, but he wants #1 money......mvscal wrote:And there's nothing wrong with that. It's just business. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing him down in San Diego. 6 to 7 million is a bit steep, but 3 or 4 would work.Neely8 wrote:My point was simply that the Pats do not see him as a #1 and therefore there is no way that they will pay him 6-7 million a year. Have a nice career somewhere else.
