Headed to Cancun June 24th - July 1st. How expensive is shit in Cancun? Not for sure how much cache to bring...

Not much going on, just laying around on the beach getting baked and drinking some beer. Curious to know what type of prices I'm going to be looking at for i.e., a beer (s), food, ....you know...that sort of shit.

Any friendly advice would be much appreciated.

Also, do cell phones from Indiana work in Cancun, Mexico?

Sounds like a typical irresponsible college kid stunt :)
Don't drink the water or trust the locals.
If some guy named Joran approaches you, flee immediately.

The wife and I were in Los Cabo last December.
I would imagine the local enviroment is similar.
I'll tell you, you'll get to a point where you wanna clock the freakin' vendors that will walk right up to you sitting on the beach with jewelry, hats, and cheap shit ornaments. Non-stop. By law they have to keep a certain distance from the resorts, but the beach in all of Mexico is fair game to sell. (Yes, pot too. )
We were at an all inclusive so I can't speak to beer prices. (I worked the margarities and Bloody Mary's pretty hard.) They water 'em down, but tip the bartender early and often and you'll catch his ear. (I hated the shift changes, had to work a whole new guy.) Asked for more tequilia and he never argued or rolled his eyes. Stick the tip on the bar WHEN you order.
Never been to Cancun, I hear it's prettier than Cabo, but has more people as well. Cabo is about 25 years into developement. The Sea of Cortez is really cool. Blue water and a great temperature.

We used the internet to communicate so I can't say what a cell would do. I don't recall cell towers anywhere.

Chief, I guess only a Floridian would go to Mexico in the summer. I'm thinkin' you'll be bakin' all right.

Have fun!

Cancun is a blast. I have been a few time. Beers aren't too expensive. You will see tons of Corona and Carta Blanca and Sol. Average beer at the beach was $2 - $3. Most resorts have an all-inclusive deal that is the best deal. I drank a ton of Corona.

When you go into Cancun they love to talk about lobsters. Pretty good but pricey. We had a nice meal and it was $45 per person. They also like to swim with dolphins. The clubs are good. The coolest is called Coco Bongo. The cover is $20 and it is all you can drink. They also have a cool stage that is up in the ceiling and have performers that act out the song. I swear the dude looked like Axl Rose. They also have people swinging from the ceilings so be careful. Carlos and Charlies is cool and so is Senor Frogs. They are more epensive and the beers are $4-$5. Senor Frogs had an wet t-shirt and itty bitty thong contest. Pretty fun.

When you are walking to the bars these hot chicks will come up to you blowing whistles and they have shots. They will grab you and start slamming shots down your throat. Then they tell you it is $10. Don't do it. It is a sugary red rum and it sucks.

All in all you will have a blast. If you get bored take a trip to Cozumel. If you scuba there is no better place in Mexico. The food and shopping are also better than Cancun.

Have fun...bastard

Cancun is fun but Cabo San Lucas is my destination of choice. I'm sure that Indy can attest to this as well.

Having been there and also to Belieze and The Great Barrier Reef, I would have to put it in third. Great place, but still third.

I just got back from Cabo San Lucas a couple weeks ago. First time there. Cabo is about the same as Cancun once you get out of the resort area as far as pricing goes.

All inclusive is the way to go in Cancun though. I don't eat at the resorts for dinner usually, but the alky, breakfast and lunches make it worthwhile. Gotta say, if you have a chice, go with Modelo instead of Corona if you are buying beers. Much better.

And if you're not at an all inclusive, buy a small ice chest and a couple cases at a store. In the long run, it will save you much more. I also recommend a restraunt called The Lighthouse or something like that. I had the lobster and filet surf/turf and 3 Grey Goose martinis for like $45. Not bad. And it was excellent.

Enjoy. You going with the ole lady?
