No more Cristal for Jay-Z???

Post by BSmack »

What the fuck is this world comming to?

http://music.yahoo.com/read/news/33354221

I have to say that it is pretty damn stupid of Rouzaud to piss off someone who has given his company millions of dollars worth of free publicity over the past 10 years.

Rap guys consumption probably represents a small percentage of sales. The poser rich folks will still by Cristal, as will consumers of fine wines...very few of which fall into the "bling" demographic.

I doubt the company is going to go belly up. Just sayin that it's damn fine publicity when your product is referenced on a #1 album and video. Last time I checked, Def Jam produced a few of those.

I think it was kind of dumb, but I was thinking about it, and maybe they were tired of Cristal being now known as the "Champagne of the Blacks."

Cicero, you're too stupid for words. How is Cristal the champagne of the blacks? Keep in mind that most blacks don't buy that shit, rappers buy it and most blacks aren't rappers.

Again, if you are gonna race bait, for God and G0D's sake, try to be funny. As mvspic said "Leave the race baiting to the professionals."

Actual T1B Nic, he's been pimping his vodka for a while. If you are a fan of Chappelle's show, watch the Rockapads sketch and check the kind of vodka that Dame Dash is pouring on the pads to test their absorbancy. Armadale Vokda.

Conspicuous consumption, the phrase of the day.

I love the tagline. "Kind of like champagne, but without the cost." Amazing what urbanites will put into their system to be like "others." Cakewalk anyone?

Champale. Can you even buy that swill anymore?

Invictus, what a dumb ass bitch you are. I know Cristal's sale is predominantly from rich white people, but publicly you only see it in rap videos and hear it in their songs. Their owner/CEO probably didnt want his sales or the image of his company to decline b/c the younger generation associates it w/ the blacks and the bling bling lifestyle.

No way did I believe that Cristal was the "Champagne of the Blacks."

Amazingly enough, yes, you can, Vic. Some places, anyway.

Pabst Brewing

Once you get past the age-check page, hit "Our Beers". Champale's in the third row of labels, in between Ballantine and Olympia.

Yea, cause they sure as hell don't want a bunch of rich trust fund babies buying their product because they see their favorite rappers singing about it on VH1.

Ah yes, Pabst Blue Ribbon, drunken by white trash, makes Champale, drunked by black trash and they are both made in an abysmal city, in an abysmal county, all in an abysmal fucking state.

I can't believe I lived there as long as I did. What a blessing the last year has been.

Goober, you and I have discussed this before. I lived in the two biggest cities in the state for a combined 9 years and I've seen probably more of that state than the majority of people who have lived there their whole lives, probably even you I would bet. You name a 4 year UW Campus, I've been there more than once, all of the private colleges from Scholastica to Stritch, I've been there. I've been to the Norski Nook in Osseo (off 94) and the one in Rice Lake. I've been to the Hotel Chequamegon in Superior. I've been to Summerfest (pretty shitty unless I was going to see a specific artist and I was only there for that short time period.) I avoided the State Fair like the plague I am proud to say. I've been to Lake Geneva and the Grand Geneva Resort.

Frankly, I've seen the best of what Wisconsin has to offer and I can tell you quite honestly, it is a geographically beautiful state, especially going up 51 out of Madison through Minoqua and Marathon Co through the Northwoods.

The people on the other hand, leave a lot to be desired. Black, white, euros, Hmong, all of em. I used to tell my out of town friends that if they loved me, they would NEVER come visit me in Wisconsin.

I stick by what I said about the state being abysmal and I could give you the names of others who weren't born and raised the who hated it more than I did. As a matter of fact, my grannie lives in Milwaukee and I shudder that I have to drive into the city in order to see her but I will bite the bullet and do it in two weeks.

The only thing I really miss about the whole state is Four Star Video Heaven in Madison. Best non-chain movie store ever. Period.

except hotel chequamegon is in Ashland... and the College of St. Scholastica is in Duluth, MN... otherwise you are set

Semantics mac. I've been up 51, across 2 through Ashland and I went to the hotel which is on Chequamegon Bay, a little ways from an ice cream parlor if I remember correctly. It is on Lake Superior in Ashland and Scholastica is actually in Duluth. All of that to say I've been to the best things I was told the state has to offer.

Still didn't like my time there tho. Glad to be gone.

In Appleton eh? You've obviously never been to the Greenbush in Madison. Great antipasto and the best tiramisu I've had in a restaurant. I don't think of great Italian food and Appleton together, they just don't sound like they go together.

Thanks Y2K, but no thanks. I'm content to visit your fair state but I think I'm gonna stay on this side of the country as long as I'm living. Something bout the Atlantic just speaks to me.

Lombardino’s is by far the best Italian restaurant in Madison, and chosen by Bon Appétit as the best in the Midwest. Sorry you had such a bad time here, considering that the city is consistently rated as one of the best places to live in this country.

Lombardino's? Really? That's the one by the Inntowner right? I went there one time when I used to live on University Ave. by the Oak Tree apartment complex and I wasn't impressed. Greenbush was my favorite place for Italian in the city.

Goobs, I was there for almost 9 years and I did everything the city had to offer but I just didn't get the return on my investment I thought I would. I've read those articles about Madison being one of the best rated places to live and I just didn't see it myself. I think the people made me dislike the city more than anything else. To each his own.

What I will miss most about the city are the great restaurants (Sai Bai Thong and Mutaburuka are great Thai places, Original Pancake House on Midvale, still not sold with it being in Middleton, Bev's when it was on East Wash, Harvest off the Square by Cameo Day Spa, and countless others) and all of the great bike trails, especially the Capital City Trail. Madison was voted as the most bike friendly city by several leading bike mags and that I can agree with. It's hard to find good asphalt trails in my new hometown.

Vic,

You should have hung out with me and my friends, you might have had a better time.

You probably visited Lombardino’s when run by the prior owner. The current owners have gone decidedly upscale with the menu. When I take my wife there for dinner, it’s tough to get out with a bill under $100.

Yeah, who woulda figured, it was one of those lucky finds while traveling. It was downtown next to this big Catholic Church. Called Olivia's or something close. It was outstanding to say the least. Friday Fish Fry in Minoqua was pretty great as well.....

A websearch returned 2,890,000 results for "most bike friendly city."

In the first coupla pages or so, the names Pasedena, Chicago, and mostly Davis came up. Not one mention of Madison.

No big suprise, since Midwesterners have these delusions that they're superlative at something besides sucking.

Not sure how anyone figures Davis is "bike friendly" -- hard to log many miles when it's 145 degrees outside.

And nevermind that the toen I live in has more maintianed bike trails/routes than all of those cities put together. I'm not sure if it's still going these days, but you used to be able to go into the city and borrow a bike(no...like a real program...not a methfreak thing).

Firstly, people around here are a little too busy riding their bikes to talk about it. I'll give you a pass, since you have no way of understanding U&L philosophy -- we're so arrogant, we enjoy sitting back and laughing while the rest of the country talks (ignorantly) about how cool they are that they just discovered something we've taken for granted for decades.

And I can tell you from firsthand experience that the list you linked is complete horseshit. Just judging from the names there, if they think Corvallis is more "bike-friendly" than Portland or Beaverton, they need to check into a rehab clinic STAT. The idea they'd rate Corvallis ahead of Eugene (depending on their criteria) is funny.

But then again, looking over their (laughable, to the point of being ludicrous) criteria, they've...

actually placed higher value on TALKING ABOUT BIKING, than actual numbers/stats/concrete figures on things like what percentage use bikes exculisvely for commuting/transport, and other figures that intelligent people might consider to be more weighty when it comes to judging such things.

What incredibly flawed logic. But then again, we probably shgouldn't expect much more from a bunch of faggot-fun-haters-on-their-mountain-bikes?

Here's a link for you -- http://www.usatoday.com/travel/destinat ... bike_x.htm

Skimming through there, I see that Madison has a whole 110 miles of bike trails. WTF? 110 WHOLE miles? Wow -- there's more than that here in one park. But Freaking Gorgeousers aren't noted for being able to accurately percieve their status in the big picture.

Any any mention of "bike friendly" cities that doesn't incluse San Fran is stupid. It's a more accepted form of transpotation than driving, damn-near.

Allegedly, Albuquerque was at one time regarded as a major bicycling city, until rumor spread throughout the cycling community that a black hole from space descended from the cosmos and took up residence in the earth's atmoshere, and was reported to have been seen hurtling out-of-control down some of Albuquerque's better bike trails on a very unhappy Schwinn Varsity, so there's been a trend in Albuquerque back towards motorized transportation.

Vic,

You need to scroll down further in that article. The top groupings are newly awarded. Further down there's complete listings. Portland is two notches below Madison.

Yeah, Dins, I know, it's in alphabetical order. But Madison is rated at the same level as Portland. When I have time, I'll link you up with all of the websites that show that we have better microbrews here as well.

I'll hold my breath waiting for that one.

Didn't realize that they up and moved Cologne, Germany to the Freaking Gorgeous...since that's the only city in the world that can be mentioned in the same beer-breath as Beervana.

Skimming through there, I see that Madison has a whole 110 miles of bike trails. WTF? 110 WHOLE miles? Wow -- there's more than that here in one park. But Freaking Gorgeousers aren't noted for being able to accurately percieve their status in the big picture.

From your link:
Portland, Ore.
"The best city for cycling in North America, Portland boasts more than 14 miles of bike lanes, 26 miles of bike boulevards and 53 miles of paths. The best of the best rides in this city is a trek on the historic Columbia River Highway along stunning waterfalls." 503-226-0676; http://www.bta4bikes.org.
So if we combine your bike lanes, bike boulevards and bike paths, you still have 17 less miles than Madison’s 110 miles of bike paths? In a city that’s twice the size of Madison?
