I don't get it!!

This thread is not about Randy Johnson. It's about suspending a pitcher for 5 games.

BIG F'ing Deal. He will miss 1 start ( or get bumped a couple of days) since a pitcher only pitches every 5th start.

Unit suspension..

Anyone think this means anything??? Or is it just blowing smoke in the stanky hole???

I agree completly... He should have been suspended for his next 5 starts.

He wont miss a start. They will just bump his start back a game. I think it is pointless to suspend starting pitchers 5 games, cause they maybe miss one game that they would have pitched.

Starting pitchers usually get a 5 game suspension for what fielders would recieve a one game suspension for...kinda sorta. Generally an apples/oranges comparison, since pitchers generally get whacked for beaning guys, and fielders it's often a fight or getting a little too jiggy with the ump.

Position players take days off too, and their suspensions can be worked into the platooning.

A 5 game suspension for not even hitting a guy? Nice.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but I'm trying to think of examples and I'm not finding any. Position players seem to get 10 days for fighting, maybe 3-5 days for swearing at an ump. So it does seem to me that suspending a pitcher for 5 games is pointless.

Though I do agree with your last statement re: platooning. Although, unless you're Barroid Bonds, not many position players get five days off in a row.
