Yes, I'm familiar with Sleater Kinney. I've mentioned this before...Sleater-Kinney is an exit off I-5 in Olympia. It's the one you take to get to Evergreen State College, home of bulldozer-defying hipster chicks.

Talk about "universal appeal"...punk bands, metal bands, grunge bands...didn't matter -- it was the Satyricon.

They reopened that place. Went there maybe a year ago for a show. Some slight improvements, but same old dump. Through all of the "improvements," they didn't paint over most of the grafitti that the bands used to paint on the stage when they were really wasted. Hell, the sign over the front of the building is spray-painted...how can you not love that?

And despite all of the history and legend -- I've seen better stage/club/seating setups in people's freaking houses than that shithole.

lots of memories . I was 16 the first couple times I played there. Probably opening for the Daddies. I think, no I'm sure my band was "Brotherhood of Rythm"

we were debinitly on the fringe of that scene. I was just a kid in the city with my band (all guys over 25) and no supervision for the first time. I'd driven over for concerts and drove back, but the first time we played the Con was a cherrypopper for sure. Hookers, on street drug dealers, "tough" guys. good times. I remember ripping a bowl in my car right in front of the club at about 6pm . some Irie lookin dude sneaks up and rapps on my window and asked me if I wanted to buy some coke. I told him no thanks and he was all pissed "what the Fuck are you here for then?!!"

I think that was also the first time I saw strippers (sup mary's club) nasty ones

You know, I probably am evil for saying this, but I kinda miss those days before the "urban reclaimation" projects. A trip to Old Town and adjecent areas was an adventure in those days. It kind of lent a sense of drama and accomplishment/adventure into seeing a show or hitting those bars. Never worroed me too much, since I'm fairly at ease dealing with the drug dealing gangsters and whatnot(probably not a ringing endorsement of my younger days). But even at that -- that wasn't an area you went bumping around care-free in once the sun went down, heaven forbid after about midnight or so...NOT a good idea(sup Luth). The River is conveniently located for easy disposal of bodies from that area, and there was no shortage of people taking advantage.

Yeah, they weren't real big on checking ID's in the Old Days(supposedly the oldest tittybar in the country-btw). Ranks right up there with the Satyricon on the "cleanliness" scale. But how times change -- there's now several tittybars in Downtown, as opposed to the one...that's been there for like 100 years, or something like that. My old buddy just took over as GM at the big new one...haven't checked it out yet. He used to be GM at the Stars in Bend-btw.

Your buddy (I cant remember the dude's name, he was friendly with my singer so they did the biz) threw us our CD release party at the adjoining club to STARS (it was called TRAX at the time. its a pron shop now). That would have been in 1999 or 2000. Must have been the guy. I remember he was from portland and was running the whole bldg at the time. He'll remember my band. we played there a few times. Once with our old buddys the Cow Trippers from pdx I belive.

Laluna was the spot for ntl club acts at the time as well. fukken asshole negroe angelo moore would not let me into a fishbone show unless I gave him my Fat Albert shirt. I had to wait until he was done making fun o my white country self (it was hilarious smak btw) and condemning me to hell for not trading my Fat Albert Shirt for his little OI shirt.

It's the "Pine Street." Just like it's still the "Starry Night." Some sacred conventions should never be messed with.

I think the Laluna/Pine St Theater is a different club now. I think they do underaged shows there too, now. When it was Laluna(or the Cat's Meow, or whatever the hell it was before), they had "Queer Night," with fag bands and stuff, so I guess whatever they did was an upgrade.

I don't think my bud, Steve T was at the Bend Stars in 99/00(although he's a tremendously nice guy to everyone he meets...don't mess with that goofy looking nerd, he's hooked it up with Rickson Gracie and Vitor Belforte...but that was another thread). I think he was there until the last few months, then he moved back home. I don't even know the name of the new place. It's in the place that's across 6th from the Starry Night(that's the Roseland to you neophytes)...used to be the Caribou, legendary for its happy hour deals...now they do the snapperdance in there. I'll have to stop by and say hi to my bud -- haven't seen him in a while, and at his previous tittybar managerial gig, I was always privy to the "dressing room cams"...good times.
