Any of those guys could have a great year. What kind of talent surrounds Stanton?

I'm not going to suggest Anthony Morelli will play perfectly as a first-time starter, but I will say...watch this kid. He's got an amazing arm, and PSU has (at long last) great WR talent.

The only thing I think that Morelli has to adapt to (and do it quickly) is making his reads at the line and getting through his progressions quickly. I watched some of the spring game and he looked excellent, but he also had 7-8 seconds to throw each time. If Morelli can do those two things, I think he will have a very good two years in Happy Valley.

PSU, how do you feel about Jay calling the plays in a pro set once again?

As for the top returning QB's:

1. Quinn
2. Smith
3. Brohm
4. Stanton
5. Any one of Henne/Tate/Leak

Also, is Carpenter going to start, or is it going to be Keller?

1. Quinn
2. Smith
3. Tyler Palko
4. Stanton
5. Brohm

Palko is the question mark for me. He has as much talent as anybody on this list, but I'm not sure he has the talent surrounding him, or for that matter the coaching, to have the impact the others do. I put him on my list based on his talent.

FTFY, as per Mr. Palko's propensity to drop said word during live interviews after ND games.

This was my attempt to give some love to the Pac 10 whiners, who will inevitably drop in this thread crying about east coast bias. Don't get me wrong, I could've easily filled all 5 slots with midwest/big ten guys. The Big Ten owns QB talent this year.

All I can remember from this guy is watching him play at UCLA last year, I believe, and dude was money. He just stood out in my mind.

I know it appears as a homer pick, but Henne should be on the list. Third year starter with plenty of wideout talent and very strong support from the running game.

by Shoalzie
Smith
Quinn
Stanton
Brohm
Leak

I would debate your "plenty of wideout talent" point, and say that Leake has a better arguement that Henne does of being on that list.

Agree about Palko. He lost Greg Lee, who was his main weapon. Seeing as to how Wanny wants to run more than Walt harris did I think this could be a tough year for Palko.

I would have to put Henne in there before Leak. Will Leak even get drafted in the NFL draft? If I'm not mistaken...isn't she short like Chollie Ward was? Hard to throw behind guys that are 6-7 and weigh 340.

I don't see a problem with your original post

If it's on draft-ability, then Henne would be near the top, but as a college QB, he should be down the list. He may make great strides this year, but he still has work to do to be in that top 5.

A case could be made for Pat White as well.

I'm just not sure what to think of Stanton. I mean, to me, it seems the past 2-3 years, he's been one of the most overrated QB's. Now, I'm not entirely sure if this is simply because MSU overall hasn't been worth a damned lately and Stanton has just had difficulty making things happen. I dunno... Stanton just doens't strike me as a top five guy. I've seen him make a few too mamy mistakes too.

Palko might make top five as a returning annoying, mouthy, SOB.

hmmmm...if you mean terrible computer skills....then yes

Anything else meant by that statement....no

Killian, I think Henne is a better QB right now than Leak. Might be because of my blind hatred of everything UF....I'm trying to be rational though...it is hard.

I like Tyler Palko, he's a tough, gutsy kid. He'll probably struggle without much help around him again, but we'll see.
PSU, how do you feel about Jay calling the plays in a pro set once again?
I'm ok with Jay as long as he's on the periphery. It looks to me as if Galen is really in charge, and they're grooming Mike McQueary more and more with the offense and Jay is hanging back. McQueary is nails with the kids, and he's tremendous with recruiting. Galen Hall Knows Offense. If he's ok with giving Jay a role then that's good enough for me.

Maybe thats because Colt isn't a returning starter.
