he's put up 1-40. the list is getting flamed every board i've seen it.....i have to homer it a bit and say that at #4 no Jamelle Holieway and Jim Harbaugh (?) there is pretty suspect.

just yer run of the mill dog days of summer off-season stuff. but, hey! whatever gets you through the night. i find Trev Alberts to be a little out of his league at #34 as well.

have fun.

I think he has been pretty good so far. I thought he was generous w/ # 5 though.

Anyone outside of the Big 10 ever wear number 1???

Oh, and whoever designed the web pages SUCKS. I have 20/10 vision and I am squinting to read the honorable mentions. Nice color scheme there fuckstain.

Ohh yeah, no way Peyton deserves #16. Three Heisman Trophy winners wore that number and I think deserve recognition over Peyton. He has turned into a HoFer in the NFL, but his success after college shouldnt be a factor.

Mike Williams was pretty great at #1 but only played 2 years

Warrick Dunn over Marshall Faulk. That's freaking hilarious. Hell, Warrick Dunn over Troy Davis is pretty f'ing funny.

Also, a safety, Bennie Blades, over the Heisman trophy winning Steve Owens (who they incorrectly called a FB) is horseshit.

...and this cat from South Carolina that is wearing the Real Roy Williams' number... not too sure about that one.

Also, it's hard to argue against Brett Favre, but I think that Steve Walsh was a better college QB...

...and Bush over LT. I'm not sure I agree with that. Bush was amazing, but he's also fresh in our memories. I'm not sure Bush ever approached 400 yards rushing in a single game, did he?

I wouldn't have been able to pick #12. Staubach, Namath, Stabler, Doug Williams... Nice selection there...

Some cat who finished his college career in 1941 over Dan freaking Marino. Interesting there, Ivan.

SMU scandals or not, picking Rashaan Salaam over ED is a freaking travesty too...

Earl Campbell over Billy Sims... Man, if ever one of these things deserved a tie. I'm not arguing against Earl OR for Billy... I'm just saying...

Honorable mention...didn't see 'em.
He was a hellva DE, but I'd agree with the "kinda" reach.

should have been OJ at 32, Marcus Allen at 33 and Sam Cuningham at 39

[homer]Kimbrough at 39 is appropriate[/homer]

he got 42 right but 52 should have been Jack Del Rio and 55 should have been Junior Seau

6- Ty Wheatly deserved a mention.

2-Woodson by a Heisman over Deion.

Need I say...homer choices?

Christ Socal....why not just find any Trojan. Believe it or not there were better football players than some of the Trojans.

Sorry bro, Deion was the greatest corner ever. #2 is synomous w/ him.

#55 should have either gone to Junior Seau or Marvin Jones

I just think that being the only defensive player to ever win the award would give Woodson a slight edge...tough call though.

Fair arguement.

One another tough call. I know Sammy baugh was the first great passer, but Archie Griffin won 2 Fucking Heisman's. That guy is #45.

He should have only won one. He's just holding Joe Washington's for him.

#4 should have been Roy Williams

I'm ok with Bo Jackson at #34 over Ricky but not Hershal.

This list seems to be more based on how a guy did in the NFL as it does how they did in college.

How the hell did Payton Manning get the nod over Jim Plunkett and Johnny Unitas.

Rack. You have to wonder what they ask at job interviews in Bristol:

HR Wonk: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Ivan: polishing Berman's Knob. It's been my dream for centuries.

HR Wonk: but of course. Now...can you make shit up seemingly out of nowhere, and submit it to us for national publication?

Ivan: you kidding? I went to Syracuse, my friend.

HR Wonk: Go Orange Crush!

Vito Corleone wrote:I'm ok with Bo Jackson at #34 over Ricky but not Hershal.
Ricky wouldn't have been a running back if it weren't for Hershal.

And Woodson was the most recent defensive player to win the Heisman, not the first. Leon Hart won it in 1949 as much for his play on defense as he did for his play on offense, if not more so.

I think Jerome Bettis should have made honorable mention at #6

#25 could have just as easliy been Rocket as McDonald. Ty Detmer won the Heisman that Rocket should have, and he was Reggie Bush before Reggie Bush.

[socaltrjnlogic]1 should have been Derrick Mayes, 2 should have been LeShane Saddler, 3 was fine, 4 Lee Becton, 5 Paul Horning, 6 Jerome Bettis, 7 Jarious Jackson, 8 Clint Johnson, 9 Tony Rice/Jeff Burris, 10 Brady Quinn, 11 Jay Johnson, 12 Ricky Watters, 13 Pat Eilers, 14 Ivory Covington, 15 Pat Terrell etc...............[/socaltrjnlogic]

That's exactly what I thought as I was reading the names...of course, Danny Weruful (sp?) was in there so...

maybe I was being a little homerish with the Marcus Allen comment but he did set the NCAA season rushing record while he was at USC, Dorsett may have had more yards over 4 seasons but Marcus started off as Charles Whites blocking back.

OJ will always be the most prolific #32 in college football history, he was shunned in this cause he hacked his estranged wife and her new boyfriends head off

Sam the Bam easily over some dude who rushed for 600 yards in a season. Cunningham will always be remembered as the player that Bear Bryant took in to Alabamas locker room after USC smoked the red tide to show those white sheet wearing hillbillies what a real football player looked like, without that the SEC stays white a few more years and is possibly the Sun Belt of today

I never saw Lujack play, however I think Curtis Enis was a better college back than Sam Bam. On the field Enis was a lot better. Get a clue, not every good football player came from Condom U.

the whole list is out. absolutely no love for option QB's outside Frazier. not too many WR's in the 80's?

interesting story Switzer tells about Lee Roy Selmon is after LRS graduated he and some assistants sat down and watched all his game film from all his four years, every play....and they estimated that he was knocked off his feet by someone else (and usually doubleteamed)....no more than 3 or 4 times in 4 years.

[homer]since #65 has no honorable mention, i'd toss out Oklahoma's Outland Trophy winner Greg Roberts...who blocked for the 1977 Thomas Lott (1978 JC Watts)/David Overstreet/Billy Sims/Kenny King wishbone. [/homer]

I give some props to Maisel for answering some email: on a lark i emailed him...about OU's Jerry Tubbs at # 53. though a kicker and Harbaugh over Jamelle Holieway is still a joke...#4. he was having no part of Greg Roberts, though. maybe if he had played for Ohio State....:D

****

Should have had tubbs in the mix, no question. Thanks for writing.

how about Sooner Jerry Tubbs at #53....no mention of this Walter Camp Award
winner, consensus All-American who played both ways at linebacker and center
for Bud Wilkinson's Sooners during the 47 game streak? NFL Pro Bowler, NFL
Hall of Famer?

no honorable mentions at #65?

How's about #65 Greg Roberts, ALL-American, Outland Trophy winner....blocked for
the 77-78 Thomas Lott/JC Watts...Billy Sims...David Overstreet...Kenny King
wishbone?
