Sleater-Kinney will stop touring or recording indefinitely.
Sleater-Kinney shutting down
06/28/2006 9:10 AM, AP
Sleater-Kinney, the critically acclaimed rock trio, say they will go on "indefinite hiatus" after completing their upcoming summer concerts.
"After 11 years as a band, Sleater-Kinney have decided to go on indefinite hiatus," according to the statement released Tuesday by Sub Pop, the band's Seattle-based record label, and posted on Sleater-Kinney's Web site.
"The upcoming summer shows will be our last. As of now, there are no plans for future tours or recordings."
The statement did not give a reason for the decision, and band members could not be reached for comment.
Sleater-Kinney is scheduled to play their last date in Chicago on Aug. 4.
The group took their name from a road near Olympia, Wash., the city where Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein formed the band.
Drummer Janet Weiss joined before the release of the 1997's "Dig Me Out," the record that gave the group a much wider audience.
The band, which relocated to Portland, released their seventh album, "The Woods," in 2005.

Better news --
It's coming up on July 4th Weekend, which means
http://www.waterfrontbluesfest.com/
Saturday sounds like my "all-day Bluesfest drunkfest." I'll show up drunk at around noon*, then get really drunk.
North Mississippi All Stars are a hoot live.
* - Assuming the bus driver doesn't kick me off again.

I was going to post about this earlier but I couldn't see my keyboard through the tears.

Sorry to break your heart and nails Don, but this news is a great victory for men everywhere.
The less of these "can't-play-a-lick, but we'll pander to those who are prone to the ramblings of pissed off chicks" in the world, the better.
Hopefully, theyll do like their desciples, and go stand in front of some choice heavy equipment in Israel.
That's not "music" -- it's estrogen on steroids.
And it's bad.

Aaaaand what have we here?
Looks like Dins is weaseling out of the rest of his work-type obligations for the day/weekend(cross my fingers).
Just in time.
LET THE DRINKING BEGIN!!!!!
Mr Weatherman says sunny and 85...although at this point, it looks like it could get warmer, since our marine layer burned off pretty early this morning. Seems like there's two choices for Bluesfest weather -- 65 and a little drizzle(haven't seen one of those in a long time, though) or about 150 degrees. I'd take 85 in a heartbeat.
Dr John tonight. I hope to have my ass on a bus and be down there. Today probably isn't the day for a balls-out 11 hour drunkfest at the Waterfront, though. I'm getting old, and I only have so many of those in me over the course of a weekend.
NMAS tomorrow night...gonna do my bestest to be there, despite having a pesky funeral/memorial service to attend. Of course, the "guest of honor" is dead, and
he'd probably rather I went and partied my balls off and scored some skeezer...so, we'll see.

And on a related note -- how dumb is Neko Case and her handlers?
The hottie(of Ukranian descent, which might explain her looks) generally makes bold claims to being a U&Ler, yet doesn't have the brains to not schedule triumphant shows at the Crystal during the Blues Festival.
I'm sure she'll probably sell out regardless, but this definitely isn't the weekend for headliners to come play Portland. About 150,000 have other things going this weekend, musically speaking.
You'd think someone who claims to be from the U&L would know these things, since it's kind of been a pretty big deal for most of her life.

Nah, she's gone on record as being pretty vehemently against this whole "selling out" thing.
Plus, she doesn't need to considering she's banking off material with the supergroup she's with as well as her solo stuff.

Uhm, I meant "sell out the Crystal."
But, maybe you knew that.
But yeah, showing the hooties would never qualify as "selling out" in
anybody's book.

That was sooooo two-weeks-ago, anyway.
Tonight is Jurrasic 5 at the Trampoline(that's the Crystal). I think it's been discussed (be me and Moorese, maybe?) that the hardwood floor bounces...apparently the only "floating ballroom floor" left in the country...cool as hell.
Matter of fact, the last two Sleater-Kinney shows ever will be at the Crystal...fitting enough.
And like Neko, scheduled it opposite the second-biggest annual show in town (although Los Lobos is kind of a letdown for a headliner at The Bite). Still, why scedule a significant show in your history when your target audience has other plans(I'm sure they'll sell out the venue regardless)? Unless the show starts at like 11:00, in which case you could walk up the road(about 1.5 miles, though...Trampoline isn't quite in the middle of the club dustrict).
Then again, Floater is playing their 350th "reunion" show there in a few days, so you never know.
Anybody even heard of Floater outside of the U&L-btw?
Isn't Wolf Parade one of "you guys' " bands? They're playing there in the next couplafew weeks.
And lo and behold...the Dandy Warhols are going to grace us with their presence again(with Brian Jonestown Massacre opening, of course). Might have to make a couple of phone calls and see if I can score freebies for that one. After-hours party might be a hoot for that one.
A long time ago, we used to be friends

Also, Helio Sequence is finally coming home(sup Beaverton Homies).
Is Sufjan Stephens one of y'all's bands?
He's coming, too.
As is SuperDiamond(SUP TIMMAY).
Must suck to live somewhere that bands avoid like the plague.
Hard to get the vibe from the pics, but it looks like this:

Indeed. Good thing I don't know what that's like.
And the Crystal Ballroom looks sweet.

Haven't been in a little while...but yeah, quelle sweet. Words can't describe how cool the floating floor is when you're really buzzed and getting your dance on. The whole freaking thing bounces and flexees to the beat...very cool.

That is, of course, if you're not too busy laying down in front of an Israeli bulldozer.
