Ultimate Fight Night

Post by Uncle Fester »

Anybody watching tonight?

I'm hoping Leben takes out the "Spider." Silva has beaten Horn, Lee Murray, Fryklund, and Carlos Newton so Leben will have his hands full.

But maybe we'll see another one of these:

Chonan's sub on Silva was simply a masterpiece. That's a 1 out of a 100 type move that he managed to pull off in a fight that he was probably losing.

Silva might be too much for Leben though.

Barely got that typed and Silva wiped the octagon with him.

Leben has an iron head and just got massacred.

I've been told I look like some UFC dude named Matt Hughes.

The TUF stars....they're all GONE!

That pretty much sucked last night. My favorite TUFers (Luke, Bonnar, and Leben) were all beaten.

The event itself was nothing but a promo lead-in for a lame TV show about kung-fu vampires ("Blade").

Rashad Evans proved that you can win by getting a takedown or two and then taking a guard nap.

What a bummer.

Did anyone else see the interview with the dude who plays Blade? He looked stoned to the bejeezus-belt.

I guess we should expect a Rich Franklin-Anderson Silva fight relatively soon.

Rich Franklin. That's the dude I meant. Not Matt Hughes.

Holy shit, that's one helluva submission (above). Is that an ankle lock or is he applying pressure to the knee?

He was in the 90's rap group Onyx (Sticky Fingaz). So being high as a kite is a very distinct possibility.

It's a flying heel hook.

It fukks up your leg from the ankle to the knee.

If you want to get reeeeeeally technical, refer to Rack Fu's answer -- it's both. A heel-hook hyperextends the ankle. That hold is ranking a whole lower leg at once...he's extending the ankle(which to the fighter's credit, isn't fat), while wrenching the knee...nasty.

That takedown/hold might work 1 time out of 100, if he's lucky....but what a freaking highlight reel when he pulls it off.

I've had it done to me. It wasn't a cool ass flying one like Chonan put on A. Silva, just applied while rolling around on the mats.

It's nasty because your knee and ankle are simultaneously being twisted in directions your knees and ankles aren't meant to be twisted. It's kind of like having two submissions applied at the same time.

Big Nog has applied a simultaneous triangle & armbar a couple of times, most notably against Mark Coleman at Pride 16. You're pretty much fucked when caught in what amounts to a dual submission. Must suck to get choked out while nearly getting your arm snapped in two. You're either tapping from pain or tapping because you're about to be put to sleep. Choose your poison.
