Gary Roberts asks Florida to facilitate a trade so that he can come back to the Leafs.
His daughter is in boarding school here and his ex-wife just decided to move back to Calgary..
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=170007&hubname=

A good move since Roberts is just the person to get O'Neill in game shape..

A good move that basically falls into the Leafs' laps? Perhaps that is the only way Ferguson could make a good move. Thanks for driving up the price of one-dimensional defensemen, Fergie.

Lidstrom re-signs...
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=170096&hubname=nhl

Quite a hefty salary but he's one of the few guys that can command it given his track record. Glad he's back in the fold. Still no word on Yzerman and Shanahan.

Chara is apparently going to test the market. I hope the Rangers make a serious push for him.

He's by far the free agent available...I think Ottawa is taking a risk in re-signing Redden and dangling Chara out there for anyone to grab him.

Agreed!

Since Washington is still tied up paying a good protion of Jagr's salary the Rangers have some room to grab him.

watch for stl to make a bid. chara and jarmo are very good friends, and it was rumored that they would be interested, and they have $$$$$$$$$$$$ to spend.

According to 1270 out of Detroit, Shanahan is not likely to return to the Red Wings. I'm hate going seeing in another uniform next season...hopefully he signs with an Eastern team. I'm banking on Toronto or Boston as Shanny's new home.

Less than 4 hours until the fun starts!

45 minutes to go...

Here is TSN's free agent listing...it's more to the point, guys are either listed restricted or unrestricted and it looks like these are the NHL level players, not the minor leaguers listed:

Supposedly Pisani has been re-signed by the Oilers.... $8M over 4 years has been reported. That's an overpayment, but not by a lot. Pisani was nails all year for the Greasers, scoring some big goals in the playoffs and against the Flames during the season.

The Leafs just cut Belfour & Tie Domi.

Shanny would be the type of leader the Kings need. Unlike Roenick, Shanny will not be practicing his dance moves on the ice.

For the first time in a long time the Leafs have 4 NHL D-men.

I have to say I'm a little disappointed in the Wings for not getting involved in some of these signings. Four guys I really wanted...McKee, Mitchell, Langenbrunner and Parrish...are all signed today. Skrastins is another defenseman I hope the Wings pursue but with Blake leaving the Avs, I have to believe Colorado will have enough money to re-sign him. With Gerber signing with the Senators, Biron has to be the guy the Wings are looking at...unless they want to go with the more expensive options, Giguere or Nabokov. I'm crossing my fingers and my toes that they don't go after Belfour or even think about bringing back Hasek. The Wings aren't going to be any better if they stand pat...gotta get on the ball, Kenny!

Blake back in LA where he belongs....

Dave Taylor's last boneheaded trade blows up in his face as Parrish leaves after only 15 or so games in a Kings jersey.

Shanny and Blake are good friends, could see Shanny coming to LA on a 2 year contract. Popular guy on the ice and in a dressing room with few leaders.

I like the Rangers signing of Cullen. He will replace Rucchin. They still need to address their D and with Chara off the board there aren't many viable options.

Another good signing by DL, getting players that can play defense and that are good role players.

No more Jeremy Roenicks for us!

A couple of minor signings (no links)...

Hinote signs with the Blues
Pothier joins the Capitals

Something big could happen tomorrow with the Wings, a 1:00 p.m. press conference is scheduled. However, many are fearing it's to announce The Captain is announcing his retirement. If it was a trade or a signing, they would've announced it already. I've got a sick feeling that Yzerman is going to call it a career unless this presser is to announce he's coming back and he's signed a new contract. We'll know for sure tomorrow afternoon...

Chris Pronger dealt to Anaheim for Joffrey Lupul, a non-roster player and picks

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=170400&hubname=nhl

The Ducks have a ton of quality young forwards so Lupul was expendable and the idea of having two premier guys on the blueline is a scary proposition. The Ducks are now probably the best team in the West after making this move.

I'm going to be sick....

Lots of $$$$ to be tied up on 2 top flight blueliners IMO.

They're worth it though...arguably the second and third best defensemen in the world right now...behind the guy in Detroit, of course.

Shanahan has reportedly signed with Boston according to Sportsnet...no link yet.

Also...
Peca signs with the Islanders (reunited with old coach, Ted Nolan)
Penguins sign Mark Eaton
Mike Grier signs with San Jose

Aaron Ward signs with the Rangers...

Apparently the Shanahan signing is not true but he's been rumored to be negotiating with the Bruins. Yzerman talked about him briefly during a radio interview after his presser...it does sound like Brendan wants to stay in Detroit but I don't know if he and the Wings can come to terms.

St. Louis Blues announced today the club has signed right winger Bill Guerin.

1 year 2mil

shannahan and roenick/carter/ also an option. and a trade of a dman for a winger is expected. brewer has very good value.

I for one was really hoping Edmonton might get Brewer back.

Looking forward to see how hard Lowe is willing to deal to keep Spacek now that the blue line is undermanned.
