So, in less than a week, our newspapers inform al qaeda of our intel strategies, judges decide al qaeda terrorists deserve Judge Judy, and when the islamofascists do decide to hit again, it will all be Bush's fault...

Your tardliness knows no bounds. And if your opinion is generally held by your brethren on the right, y'all have very short memories.
During the previous administration, the "left" laughed and played and romped and frolicked while the economy thrived, gas prices were relatively low, and most of the Western world admired and respected us. We didn't really give two shits that the Prez was gettin' hummers from a skanky intern; as leader of the free world, he was doing a good job. Yeah, I know, Bubba doesn't deserve credit for all the wonderfulness at the time, but frankly, we didn't care. The country was receiving more good news than bad, and that made the "left" happy, while those of you on the right were CONSTANTLY whining and crying like schoolgirls who didn't get asked to the prom. So which side is it that does the happy dance when bad news hits the headlines? Or more to the point, which side snivels when times for our country are good?
Now, we find ourselves mired in an unpopular, and possibly unwinnable, war, with bad news outweighing good. Many of our allies laugh at us and shake their collective heads ruefully over a citizenry that would elect (allegedly) such a buffoon - TWICE! (And save your, "What the rest of the world thinks is irrelevant" argument, mvscal - we all know how you feel.) In fairness, 9/11 can't be blamed on Shrubby. But again, where the blame lies for the current position in which we find ourselves isn't the point. The point is that your idiotic statement that the left relishes bad news for the country is, well, nothing less than could be expected from half-wits like you.
To paraphrase the host of a current HBO series, "I don't hate America. I just want it back."

Actually the hummer probably got us more respect in Spain, France, Portugal and Italy, where mistresses are "expected." Hell, Italy probably still remembered it in their decision to send troops to Iraq.

I am refering to the redistricting. Unlike the other decision, it sets a long term precedent, and the one addressed in this thread can be fixed legislativly anyway.

It wasn't Bubba who was being laughed at, it was our country's overblown (pardon the pun) reaction to what they considered a perk of the job. Now they laugh at us for being retarded enough to elect Shrubya, then re-elect him. And they laugh at him, too. Don't believe me? Take a trip to Europe, talk to those who live there, and read their newspapers. Not that I would expect your opinion to be changed; you'd simply place the blame for what they believe on
their liberal media.
Comparing the exploits of one idiot to another is always amusing.

Yes, having mistresses is quite popular the world over. A mistress is generally someone of a reasonably mature age that doesn't happen to be an underling. MM was a mistress to jfk. Lewinsky on the other hand was a stupid kid and clinton was just being the opportunistic wolf he always has been. Remember that the whole thing started due to his shameful passes at other stupid young skanks.

IMHO, Clinton was smarter than the average bear with regards to his academic potential. The guy did get awarded a Rhodes Scholarship (which he never finished) and went to Yale. So I guess we can consider him "book smart."
On the other hand, he has the morals of an alley cat and made poor decisions with regards to sex, business, etc. He was/is a shameless opportunist with disgustingly poor moral character. He (and his blind followers) also sometimes doesn't quite seem to "get" why people believe him to be morally repugnant - for a lot of folks, myself included, it's not about politics and trying to "go after him." - it's that he is one of those self-appointed "I'm smarter than you" folks who believes himself above us mere mortals. He and his little circle of smarmy academic buds honestly were arrogant enough to think that they a) knew better than everyone else how the world should be run and b) could do whatever they wanted in order to achieve those ends.
I refuse to believe that a man who mocked the wedding oath he took before friends, family, and God could be taken seriously on any other oath, including that to defend the Constitution.

Fixed to talk about the current administration (I took out the "academic" part). In fact I don't see where any administration is any different.

Mike the Lab Rat wrote:On the other hand, he has the morals of an alley cat and made poor decisions with regards to sex, business, etc. He was/is a shameless opportunist with disgustingly poor moral character.
The biggest problem with Clinton's morals, imho, is not his extramarital dalliances (God and GOD, although apparently not the Right, knows that he wasn't the first President to do that), but his willingness to shaft what should have been his natural constitutency at the drop of a hat in order to get a pat in the back and an "ATTABOY" from a group who wouldn't vote for him if their very lives depended on it.
I see you working here, but in this case, we've replaced him with a bunch of self-appointed "I'm better than you, and more moral than you, because I'm richer than you" types who do essentially the same thing, and piss all over the Constitution in a way Clinton never would have dreamed of doing. Pick your poison. Personally, I'll take the one who does less damage to the country, and that would be Clinton.

A bit of projection on your own part there - I was actually one of those on the right-hand side of the academic bell curve in high school. Lots of scholarship money, awards, etc. One of the things I couldn't stomach in some of my fellow National Honor Society, accelerated-math-and-science, A-track crowd was the utter and complete arrogance they had with regards to their fellow students. They liked to insulate themselves from those they considered "beneath" them, tried to impart their particular snippets of wisdom via the school newspaper (which they controlled), and made a point of making themselves the beknighted "voice of the students" to administrators. These same kids considered my having non-Honors kids as friends as "slumming."
A lot of these self-important pricks went on to become the insufferable boors we had to listen to at college parties and in the bars. The whole "if people like
US were allowed to run the world" idealism was mixed with an almost sneering contempt for the great unwashed who didn't share their (usually leftist) worldviews, familial financial advantages, or education. I saw a ton of that arrogance and hypocrisy in several of my hippy-dippy poli sci major fraternity brothers - otherwise fine folks who couldn't help but look down on those who had a different outlook on life & politics. The phrase 'I don't see how you can
think that way' was big in their arguments. It never occurred to them that equally intelligent, well-meaning, and educated folks could be .....[gasp] not liberal.
From what I've heard and read about Clinton and his college buds, he fit right into that stereotype.
Granted, the current administration has the same arrogance, but from a right-wing religious POV, but all I was pointing out is why some folks, my self included, have never bought into the myth of "Wonderful Bill Clinton."
edit: I almost forgot the Clinton-worshippers I dealt with as professors when I was getting my MSEd...these arrogant fuckers actually haughtily would tell us as students that the reason some of us didn't believe we were being "oppressed" was because we had been so brainwashed by the "white heterosexist patriarchal hegemony." In other words, our professors basically told the students that were too stupid to understand that they were oppressed. Typical.
