Johnny who?
Fachk!
Did you fukkahs check out that catch tonight?
Dude came flying outta nowhere.
Holy shit... WOW!
Amazing catch to possibly save a ball game.
I like this kid.
Takes the 7th, 8th spot, after injury, no problem (and there shoudln't be with the way Youk has been playing)....Wow.
Wish I had a clip of that stab..
Best defensive play by a 'Sox I've ever seen.

BOSTON (AP) -- Coco Crisp sprinted into the gap, soared through the air and slammed to the ground -- the ball and Boston's winning streak safely in his grasp.
"That was one of the most exciting moments I've ever experienced on the baseball field," teammate Mark Loretta said.
"One of the best catches I've ever seen when I'm pitching," said 16-year veteran Mike Timlin.
Even the player who hit the ball marveled at the eighth-inning catch in left-center field that helped the Red Sox beat the New York Mets 4-2 Thursday night and stretch their winning streak to 12 games.
"It was one of the best plays I've ever seen," David Wright said. "He got a great jump on it. That's what happens when you're playing well."
The spectacular grab kept Boston ahead and preserved Curt Schilling's 10th win. David Ortiz homered for an insurance run and Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth for his 24th save in 26 chances, tying Dick Radatz's club rookie record set in 1962.
New York dropped its third straight -- the Mets had been the only team in the majors that hadn't lost more than two in a row.
Crisp, who took over in center field after Johnny Damon left for the New York Yankees last offseason, got a great jump but wasn't sure he'd reach Wright's drive that would have scored Carlos Beltran and tied the score at 3.
"I didn't think I was going to get there," Crisp said. "I took a leap of faith and, because I was running so fast, I was able to hang in the air."
After the graceful grab, Ortiz homered in the eighth for Boston, sealing a three-game sweep in a matchup of first-place teams. The Red Sox tied the longest winning streak in the majors since Houston won 12 in a row from Aug. 27 to Sept. 8, 2004.
Boston also tied the major league record of 16 straight errorless games set by the St. Louis Cardinals from July 30 to Aug. 16, 1992.

and that's all I got to say about that!!

Gotta remember...if it was a play made by the Yankees or the Red Sox, it's automatically better than other plays.
All kidding aside...regardless of what uniform the guy is wearing, that was an impressive catch.

That was an average catch.

I've watched a lot of baseball this week...which is quelle cool.
And I've seen some sickass defense this week.
But, I'm Out West, and it's just about always the Mariners I'm able to watch on the late game...and I HATE the M's.
But, Yuniesky Betancourt is one crazyass defensive SS. Since the M's almost always play night games, and they probably wrap up after most of y'all's bedtimes, you might not have had much of a chance to check him out. If you do get a chance -- Betancourt plays one mean SS. Fun to watch.
Heck, between him, Jose Lopez, Kenji Johjima, and Jeremy Reed, the Mariners are starting to show some SICK middle defense.
Kenji Johjima is all that and a bag of chips. Excellent catcher, strong relationship with the pitching staff, and hits for power and average...what more do you want? Maybe the best catcher in the game, halfway through his "rookie" year.

Call me homer, but I don't think there's a better defensive SS than Adam Everett. Better yet, call me Marcus.

P'shaw.
I'm an anti-homer(as mentioned), yet I've pretty much crowned Bentancourt as king.
And as I mentioned at the end of last season, I'm thinking that Jeremy Reed is going to make people forget all about the gloves of Edmonds and Jones. I think he's already a better fielder than either of those guys ever was, although he isn't anywhere near the hitter either one of those guys is.
And I HATE the Mariners. Although, they did sign my man Sexy.

I'm here to help.
And really, the Stro's defensive infield is no slouch, as a collective.
Actually, there's some good defensive teams these days.

I dunno...Berkman isn't that great. Biggio is old. Burke will be a good 2B when Biggio hangs them up. Ensberg and Everett are one of the best defensive 5-6 in the bigs. Boston probably has the best with Lowell and Alex Gonzalez.
Everett's better than your guy. Your guy is good, but not better than Everett.
Check the stats

That's kinda what inspired my statement.

P'Shaw.
Sin,

I'm kind of from the school that thinks that defensive abilities are hard to quanitfy. While stats are our only way to make realistic comparisons, I don't think that they always tell the whole story. Certain guys don't put up the fattest fielding stats, yet they always seem to have the ability to make that "big play" when it counts the most(sup Derek Jeter).

Umm...only 1 3B in all of MLB has more errors than A-Rod.
Of course, I don't know what P'Shaw means, but I'm assuming your intent was that the Yanks' 5-6 combo is better, defensively, than Boston's.
A-Rod - 13
Jeter - 6
Lowell - 4
A-Gon - 1
Those are error counts, my friend. Yankmes are FAR behind BoSox in fielding from the left side of the small diamond.

Hey Marcus!!
Think of how many current decent SS used to play for the Red Sox or came from their system..
Adam Everett
David Eckstein
Orlando Cabrera
Freddy Sanchez
Alex Gonzalez (** The Best Defensive SS this year**)
Hanley Ramirez
etc..

[devil's advocate]Remember, all those great "defensive players" also have to take a turn at the plate...BODE Yankees(until the playoffs come, and a certain image-obsessed nitwit disappears).

Oh I'd take the Yanks left side over any other in baseball. Wasn't the topic being discussed, however.
Of course, now that we have turned this BoSox thread into a YankMe thread...the world is all right again.

Shortstop?
Omar
Everett is a distant second but the greatest defensive shortstop EVER still plays for the Gnats.
queue Cardfan melt in 4..3..2
The Stros and Red Sox defenses this year are sick. If only we could hit and pitch on that same level...
Ah, face it. The national league simply sucks this year.
