Got Yahoo?

If not, get it here.

The days of a few poor bastards, wasting time figuring stats, is OVER!

Yahoo offers virtually every available form of fantasy contest, as well as the pick'ems. Even better, I nor anyone else has to break out the abacas, and you dont have to wait for some lazy fuck to count fingers and toes, and get your stats posted. Its all there, be it live, or just after midnight.

Fantasy
Fantasy Salary Cap
Pick'em
Pick'em Confidence
Pick'em Spread
Pick'em Survivor

In addition to all of that, Yahoo now records your results over the various sports you play, and displays them in your profile, dating back to 2000.

Shit talking can continue here ......... but your picks, scores, and any form of running a league, now resides at Yahoo.

The Dirtbag league will be reforming soon, and all others will be as soon as they are available. Thanks for playing.

I guess my only request is that the basic pick 'em game doesn't use the 'division' format of last season.

Worst pick 'em game I've played in the 7 yrs I've posted on the boards.

Yahoo sucks...they have busily fucked up even the simple task of being able to play a game of chess in just the past few days..and you want me to trust them to host an NFL pick'em game?

Fuck Yahoo, and fuck you and your impersonal Yahoo soapbox, dave.

I say that we keep control of the T1B NFL picks games right here.

I'll keep score of the confidence game myself once again, if need be.

Wags, enjoy keeping stats for yourself and the other 2 or 3 brainless people that are to fucking hard headed to join the masses.

Im guessing Yahoo chess, can suck a a little ass at times, just as the Yahoo card games can once in a while, but Ive been playing some form of Yahoo fantasy since '99 and I have NEVER had a problem. If ......Yahoo ever did have a problem ........ Im pretty confident they would fix it much faster, and with out some lame ass excuse of moving, changing jobs, getting some pussy or what have you.

Speaking of excuses ......... Tart, I will address your concern.

You didnt want to mention Shoalzie by name I guess. Thats cool, I understand. Umhuh .... Anyways, Old Shoalzie can do whatever he chooses with his contest. It has its place. But its place is not as the primary pick'em contest.

Memo to all, so you save a few keystrokes. I have ran more than my share of contests, and played in even more. People that play the contests on a regular basis, and people that run the contests have certain expectations. People also have better things to do than attempt to cypher like a computer can, or put up with some jack off trying to run a contest.

YAHOO BABY!

Wags, Im kicking your ass in every fucking Yahoo NFL league this year. Bet?

Yes, I agree.

I don't want to slam Shoalz real bad because I was learned that it's not polite to criticize someone who is doing a job FOR you.
Basically, that is what he was doing for us.

That said, fool me once, shame on him.
Fool me twice, shame on me.

Shoalzie has forfieted running the MAIN pick 'em game again, as far as I'm concerned.

dave, my problem with using Yahoo or any other site for T1B picks games is that a huge disconnect exists between there and here. It can just seem so distant, sterile, and welcome to The Machine, if you know what I mean.

Not to mention that Yahoo has become so over commercialized as they try to squeeze every last nickel of ad revenue from pop-ups and every other annoying method they can devise to distract one from why they were there in the first place.

Maybe that's just me, so if the majority of posters around here want to use Yahoo, I'll go along for the ride.

Oh yea, Yahoo is a long fucking ways away. Two or three mouse clicks. :meds:

Dunno what you are using, but I get no pops ups, nor even a warning that a pop up was blocked. Perhaps you have confused Yahoo with ESPN.com
War Wagon wrote:Maybe that's just me, so if the majority of posters around here want to use Yahoo, I'll go along for the ride.
Im guessing its just you, and maybe one or two hard headed fucks that are to lazy to click a link, and would instead prefer for some poor bastard to waste 30 minutes, 1 hour or more per week for the entire season.

Its 2006, and its about time we start using modern technology.

For those of you who are still not down, I have a deal for you. I will run the old fashioned contest also. You send me your picks via smoke signals. If I some how manage to see them, then I will tabulate and post them. :P

I'm with Red, 'Tart and Wags.

Despite the fact I completely flaked from participating in last year's contests, I like having the contest threads on the board.

Not sure if the format, interface or timeliness was primarily at fault, but last year's contest klunked.

Assuming we could get a couple stellar folks to run the pick 'em and confidence pools, I'd much rather see them stay here.

While Dave's yahoo suggestion certainly has merit, this is home ... let's keep it that way.

From a 'technical' standpoint, yahoo makes sense.

The thing is, even though it is only a 'couple of mouse clicks away,' I think there is a bit of a 'disconnect' from the board that people would feel by having the contest housed somewhere else.

As long as there are a couple of people willing to do what's necessary to run the games properly here then I think keeping them right here is the thing to do.

Why is everyone acting as if you need to pack a lunch, and drive across the state? Do you get your email from this board? Do you do your personal banking from this site?

I will be posting the opening link on a weekly basis as always, and I will be posting the weekly winner, tie breaker horseshit and all that, as always. What I, nor anyone else needs to waste time with, is the tasks that a computer is better at doing. In addtion to all of that, I can remove the message board feature from Yahoo, so "shit talking is kept at home."

Anyone that stalks eerrrrrrr, basically knows my current board habits, knows I run a decent contest. I would not suggest something just to jerk people off. The jackass fantasy league is hosted elsewhere. Every other fantasy contest is hosted elsewhere. Why is that? Because it makes fucking sense. This makes sense also.

As the old saying goes, "Dont knock it before you try it." If it sucks, so be it. Perhaps that will be the door opening for my departure from this board. My money says every one will be thanking me by week 4.

That sounds bitter dave, just saying.

Do it how you want to, I'm sure it will work out either way. I'm in with the majority. Why not set up a poll for who's in and who's out. Go with the bigger percentage. If you don't want to keep track, i'm sure someone could do it for you. (btw, you've done a great job in the past) I like things here personally, mainly because this is my home page and hangout during the entire season. It's nice to come here and look around at everyone's picks from time to time. I also see your side of the coin also. To bad i couldn't set up an Excel spreadsheet to keep track? That would make it very nice. Also, I'm not sure you can see what everyone else picks @ yahoo, that's part of the fun here.

I'll run Survivor here as long as people want to play it here.

Not bitter at all. Just letting everyone know I would not recommend something that blows.
Big Daddy wrote:It's nice to come here and look around at everyone's picks from time to time...... Also, I'm not sure you can see what everyone else picks @ yahoo, that's part of the fun here.
You can always view what others have picked. Not only that, you can also view who the majority of Yahoo's 5 million plus players are picking games for the current week. If thats not enough, you can also view the Top 50 peeps, and find out they are doing, that you are not. But wait .... theres more ...... Yahoo also provides the betting lines from 5-7 of Las Vegas top oddsmakers.
Big Daddy wrote:To bad i couldn't set up an Excel spreadsheet to keep track? That would make it very nice.
Guess you missed my thread at the end of last season.
Ive been doing that the last 3 years.
It does make things easier, but still much more time consuming that it needs to be. Also, unless you are going to stay up all night, or drag your ass outta bed at 5:30am to do the work as I did, then you are making people wait to see the results. Why make people wait when they dont have to?

Q, I would be totally open to the idea of putting this to a vote, if the idea of keeping it here had any credence or merit. However it does not.

No one has yet, nor will they ever present a valuable arguement of why it does not make sense to make a subtle change. Sorry ..... but .... the whole touchy, feel good, faggy, bullshit of "keeping it here," "at home," is a crock of shit.

We all know what the real problem is in all of this. We have a few fat fingered, lazy fucks, that are totally unable to fathom the idea of change. They are more than comfortable bitching about changes, but totally unwilling to do anything besides bitching, to keep things the same.

Just in case, you or anyone else hasnt been paying attention, I have been riding this horse since January. This is not some simple case of me getting tired of running the fucking contest and handing over the keys. If that was the case, Id simply say something that others have said in the past. Whatever.

If this is to be put to a vote, it should be in Jan 07, after this season, when everyone has had the chance to actually try another method.

i think that Faust has "spoken?"

that would = Merit.

i completely understand what you are saying; BUT, i think that the MAJORITY of Posters (above)....errr..us old timers--->would like to have things continue like the way they have been.

remember that our little CORE all joined in around the year 2000. "OUR" commeraderie has been ingrained around Contests held "on the Board!"

changing things would just dig up the last ROOT...except for the memories.

i appreciate what you are saying
Dave...its up to Dana....or a POLL.

thank you for your effort and thoughts to this matter!

Well, then it seems that you have a closed mind to what anybody else thinks, because you believe that you, personally, are the Grand Poobah of the Internet.

So I really won't try to change your opinion, but for others benefit, who might be watching this debate w/o a closed mind, I'll add this experience.

Some of you may know that we've been running a damn fine NECKCAR contest on these boards the past 6 years. It requires some active and interactive participation from the dozen or so of us who play thru-out the entire 7 month long season. That interaction between various posters is what keeps it vital and keeps peeps interested.

One year I also started a Yahoo league to compliment the board version. After a few weeks, it was totally irrelevant and virtually ignored the rest of the season because it was just too damned impersonal. Nobody gave a flying fuck about the Yahoo contest, but we were still talking shit about the BOARD contest all year long.

The FACT that some person here (blessed be Mac22 for keeping track in the Motorsports forum) actually takes the time and trouble to tabulate the scoring and ranking heirarchy makes all the damn difference in the world to a contest such as we run.

You can have Yahoo, dave. I predict that if that's the route we go, by Week 6 the fucker will fizzle out as over half the initial players will have bailed. By Week 10, the few bored and yawning souls still bothering to make their picks will consider the task a burden. By Week 16, the only peep left playing will be the Grand Poobah, who will promptly annoint himself as "NFL Pick 'em Champ" over having outlasted everyone else on the suck-o-meter.

It would be nice to run everything over in yahoo, I like the fact that results of the early games are in yet the later games are still being played. BUT, there is one MAJOR problem no one has pointed out…for whatever reason some peeps like to sign up under a different nick than the one used here on this board. There are 14 people total in Dirtbag Pickem right now and I have no idea who half of them are.

Who are all these people?

Fuck. Sox is in. Dude is nails. We should all just quit now.

Anywho, I will hang a rainbow flag with all the other queers here for just one minute on the subject of team names. Thats the one feature Yahoo offers, (IMHO) that gives all the haters the bait. It is a pain in the ass trying to decipher who the hell is who. I would think it has to be much harder for those that are painting their toe nails while making their picks.

If its not to hard, everyone identify themselves, in some form.
