Edmonton

Forward Lines
1st: Hemsky - Horcoft - Smith (decent)
2nd: Torres - Stoll - Lupul (decent)
3rd: Morreau - Reasoner - Pisani (ok)
4th: Winchester -Schemp - ???

extra: Harvey, Peterson & Pouliot
UFAs: Laraques, Samsonov, Peca

D-men
1st: Smith - Staios (ageing)
2nd: Bergeron - Green (bad)
3rd: Syvret - Smid (young)

extras - none
UFAs: Spacek, Tarnstrom, Ulanov

Goaltending
Roloson (decent goalie but we overpaid him for too long)
Markannen (after his finals performance, I'd be seeing if anyone wants him)

Extra- Dubnyk

Edmonton really really needs to pick up a couple of journey men on d. Anyone have any?

Steve Montador is still out there.... :D

Tanguay-Langkow-Iginla
Huselius-Lombardi-Amonte
Nilson-Yelle-Kobasew
Nystrom-Lundmark-McCarty

extra - Ritchie

Regehr-Zyuzin
Warrener-Ference
Hamrlik-Phaneuf

extra - Richie Regehr, Giordano

Kiprusoff
nobody yet

UFAs - Brian Boucher, Craig MacDonald, Chris Simon, Cale Hulse, Bryan Marchment, Mike Leclerc

Flames are pretty set. Another offensive player would be nice, but not coming, at least not until the trade deadline. A backup goalie and maybe a journeyman 7th defenseman and I think we're ready to drop the puck.

JD--The Flames signed Jeff Friesen today

Shanahan's status is kind of in limbo...the Wings need to find another top 6 winger if he does sign elsewhere. Yzerman's retirement opens a spot for another forward but I think that will eventually be filled by either Jiri Hudler or Valteri Filppula.

As for goalie, Belfour is reportedly visiting Detroit today...I heard he might sign for as low as a $500K. Hasek could also be a possibility. If they can sign either guy for less than a million that wouldn't be all that bad of a solution. Holland supposedly doesn't want to trade anyone of the current roster to get a goalie so that probably narrows his choices down to going the free agent route.

This article also mentions that Shanahan is being offered a one year $4 million deal from the Wings but he's still shopping his services around the league.

I can't really piece together the lineup until they figure out what happens with the goaltending situation and Shanahan. The defense is set but I think they need to sign one more stay-at-home physical guy...they never replaced Fischer in the lineup since he went down. If they don't make a move, their top 6 is likely: Lidstrom, Schneider, Kronwall, Chelios, Lilja and Lebda.

Yeah, I saw that. A bit of a surprise, but Sutter's been rumoured to acquire Friesen ever since he took over the GM's chair.

Tanguay has been signed to a 3 year deal worth 5 and a quarter per as well. A little high, but that's the cost of keeping a guy into his UFA years.

Sutter was quoted as saying he'll try Tanguay at center, so I guess my lineup is a bit altered...

Friesen-Tanguay-Iginla
Huselius-Langkow-Kobasew
Nilson-Lombardi-Amonte
Lundmark-Yelle-McCarty

Meh... who knows. Sutter will have tried every combo in the book by the 2nd intermission of the 3rd game anyway.

Seems like it was ages ago the Wings drafted Hudler. I remember being disappointed the Flames didn't draft him.... I'm anxious to see if my disappointment was justified! 8)

It's a pivotal year for Hudler in Detroit. He's a RFA and if the Wings decide to sign him and have him on the roster, he's at the point where he can't be sent down to Grand Rapids without clearing waivers. He had a great year in the AHL last year but he's yet to really show the Wings much whenever he was called up. With Yzerman retired, that opens up a forward spot on the top 3 lines. Igor Grigorenko is still another year away from coming over...he would've probably taken that spot in the lineup. Most believe it'll either be Hudler or Filppula who will "graduate" to the Wings for next season unless Holland signs a free agent.

Colorado is in OK shape. Good enough to make the playoffs (probably) but that's about it.

Hejduk-Sakic-Brunette
Wolski-Arnason-Svatos
Laperriere-Turgeon-Konowalchuk
Laaksonen-McLean-McCormick

extra-Brad May, Brad Richardson

Leopold-Liles
Skrastins-Clark
Vaananen-Brisebois

extra-Kurt Sauer

Theodore
Budaj

Those line combinations, as JD says, will change early and often, I'm sure.
