Just got back from a funeral for an 80-year-old family friend. The guy was a fireman and a WWII vet (Navy) so they had the honor guard from the fire department AND the gun salute from the vets. The lead guy said that due to budget cuts, the military no longer supplies the soldiers, so these guys were Vietnam vets who showed up voluntarily. Pretty powerful stuff. They even had a Navy bugle player who was also a WWII vet. He played Taps, which always gets me.

RACK all the men and women who serve, past and present.

I attended my late Uncle's funeral at Fort Sam Houston
in San Antonio in April.
He was a retired US Army Medical Corps Col.--served
from WW 2 through Korea and Viet Nam.
As a family survivor, I was given the folded flag. I put
it in a display case I purchased and it sits on top of
the bookcase wall in my den. When they fired the M-14
blank loads, I flinched at the first round--forgot how loud
they are.
Rack all those guys and the guys serving today !!

Active duty gets military color guards / honor guards. Retired or non active it is usually volunteers from the Legion or VFW. Those are getting damn few as the older ones die off and there is just less of the Vietnam vets to take over.

My son does honor guard for the Marine Corps. They stay with the deceased until burial, 24 / 7 in full dress blues standing at parade rest unless there are visitors, then they stand at attention. 2 at all times.

I have been to too many funerals this year. Joined the PGR to do what I could, and support the families. The ones in the 4th of July parade get less and less every year.

Good thing there are people willing to serve and protect ALL citizens of this great country, even the braying jackasses like Martyred who exercise their free speech rights over the blood of fallen US soliders in ALL conflicts, wars and threats, and then post lunacy like he does.

Since Martyred is probably going straight to hell upon his hopefully soon demise to join the likes of Hitler, Edi Amin, Stalin, Lenin, Mao and all the other insane rulers, enjoy yourself, since their won't be any US military to protect your ass.

About three weeks ago we had a service for a Korean War vet. Two days before the service the WA NG color guard bailed on the family. The family asked us to stand in for them, which we gladly did. Fortunately we had two people who knew how to fold the flag.

None of these soldiers should go w/o being honored for their service.
