What conference will suck next year

Seems like every year there is one conference that ends up sucking from top to bottom. Last year it was probably the Big 12 except they ended up putting on a good showing in the bowls.

Counting only the big conferences (Big 12, PAC10, Big10, SEC, ACC) I would say that the PAC 10 is prime for a down year.

USC - lost most of its offense.
Oregon - is replacing their QB
Kal - is Kal
Arizona - is still not ready to take the next step.
UCLA - lost their top RB and TE, defense sucked last year.
ASU - unknown
Stanford - is a bunch of smart guys.
OSU - unknown
Udub - sucks
WSU - sucks

Right now its probably still USCs conference but I admit I dont know much about what some of the schools have coming back.

Im going to go w/ the Pac 10 as well, but I also see the ACC having a down year from the last couple. We lost a lot of talent in the conference to the NFL and their isnt a legit Top 5 team in the bunch right now.

I'm going to say the Big 10. They are going to be all or nothing this year.

Ohio State returns a lot of talent and experience on offense, but their defense is going to have to replace some all world talent. SV has recruited very well, so I expect them to plug in talented replacements, but they will lack experience.

Michigan is Michigan. You can count on Carr to lose at least one game he shouldn't and if last year is any indication, he will continue to coach his way to losses instead of wins. If there are any more close games this season, he should be able to shit diamonds.

PSU will be a wild card. Replacing their offensive line and defensive backfield will be tough. A lot of their season rides above the shoulders of their QB.

MSU is MSU. Start hot (probably fucking beat ND) and then go Titanic like they typically do.

Northwesten will be hard pressed to have a good season this year. If any team lost a coach of that calibre, they would be gone for at least that year. Walker was getting blood from a stone in Evanston.

Purdue is Purdue. See MSU without the possible victory over ND. Tiller is a joke.

Minnesot lost their two best running backs, so they will find it hard to move the ball. Capito is a decent QB, but nothing more.

Iowa will have to replace two solid linebackers and find consistancy on both sides of the ball. Now is the last hurrah for little man Tate.

Wisconsin will be breaking in a new head coach without a proven running back, which has always been a staple of their offense.

Illinois and Indiana are both upper level MAC teams.

I agree with a lot of what Killian said, except that Indiana and Illinois are upper level MAC teams. That's giving them way too much credit. Throw Northwestern in there too. They will be terrible.

Wisconsin will be overrated all year, but they have a cupcake schedule will help Bielema win some games. But Bielema, like every other former Hawkeye, will do a nice job at Wiscy.

I have always thought Tiller was overrated. His teams are NEVER prepared to win games down the stretch. People talk like dude never has any talent......bullshit. Not tOSU or Michigan talent, but better than Sun Bowl talent. No bigger fraud in Big-10 history than J-Tiller.

I agree on Penn St. Part of me thinks they could have a repeat of last year, and part of me thinks they could have a repeat of the previous few years. LB's are damn good, and the RB's are solid too. Morelli will be a huge key to their success. And speaking of Morelli, why the heck did JoePA allow a guy with his talent to waste 2 full years of play without seeing a lot of action? Should have redshirted 1 of those years so that he'd have 3 full seasons as the starting QB.

Michigan State is probably going to be the same 'ol same 'ol. Doesn't matter the coach, they always have talent and start out hot only to fade. It's a pattern they can't ever seem to stop.

I really think Ohio State COULD contend for a national title like expected IF they didn't have that brutal road schedule against 2 explosive offenses early in the season. Play Texas and Iowa late in the year, and I'd give them a shot. But inexperienced defenses that go on the road early against good offenses usually = getting ambushed. Ohio State isn't going to overmatch Iowa physically like they did last year. Our D-line is going to be a strength of our defense and our O-line is going to be very good. Last year, they just pounded us at the line of scrimmage. Not gonna happen this year.

You'll all call me homer, and that's fine, but I think Iowa is going to be a BCS team with a legitimate shot at playing for a national title. The schedule really plays out well......if we can beat Michigan. Obviously, that's a big IF. But the O-line and D-lines will both be amongst the best in the nation, and we all know that games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage. Throw in a team that is very deep and talented at RB, QB, and TE and has some good young (but inexperienced) WR's.....and you've got an explosive offense. Defensively, the losses of Greenway and Hodge will hurt, but what team doesn't lose star players every year? Afterall, we're talking about college football. From what I've seen so far of their replacements, they are pretty solid players. The safeties are proven and very good. Our inexperience at corner could hurt, but I'm confident in the 2 starters (Shada/Godfrey) that they can match up with Big-10 WR's. Special teams, as always, will also be a strength of this team.

I see the Big-10 shaking out like this....

1.Michigan
2.Iowa
3.Ohio State
4.Wisconsin
5.Penn State
6.Michigan State
7.Purdue
8.Minnesota
9.Indiana
10.Illinois
11.Northwestern

With 1,284 future NFL starters on your roster, you should have no trouble beating Michigan.

AM didn't want to redshirt. Joe said that he wished he had redshirted him, and he definitely would have, but AM didn't want to do it.

2 years is a looong time for a QB to start at PSU, or in college at all, really. If AM plays well and avoids injury, 2 seasons will seem like a lot. AM at least knows that Joe will give him every opportunity to finish his career as a starter, no matter who is behind him.

To piggy back on that, Morelli's arm didn't get caugt on his purse strap when trying to throw the ball down field, a la Zach Mills.

It's a shame what happened to Mills. He had a lot of potential...he got a ton of starting time as a r-frosh. I was all excited that he'd have the better part of 4 years to develop into something special. He played a hell of a game against OSU in '01.

Instead, injury and horrific WR play entombed him...

AKA "Ron Powlus syndrome".

I actually didn't mean that as slam on Mills. I just know that Morelli was brought in a few times to throw hail marry's because of his strong arm.

Alright Killian...

I am going with the I-A Independents

Army - Blows
Navy - Blows
Notre Dame - they will fall back to earth this year, while I am waiting for the Hall of Fame to change their rules again to let Charlie Weis in, I just don't think they are going to suprise anyone this year.

Temple - Worst team ever.

Yeah, this "conference" sucks. Nice company you guys keep there Notre Dame.

I think all the smart schools should get together and form a big smart conference.

Stanford
Rice
Airforce Academy
Army
Navy
Duke
Northwestern
Vandy
Rutgers
Uconn

They could call it the Smart 10

Actually that probably wouldn't be that bad of a basketball conference.

ND might not fall back to earth this year, but 2007 is going to be ugly. Thanks to Tytanic, ND has no depth or experience at OL, WR, DT, DE, LB, or DB.

In 2007, it will be a miracle to win 8 games and if they do, it will be because of Darius Walker.

If you were going to do that, not trying to brag, but to be honest, you'd have to extend an invite to ND. ND is ranked comparably to, or better than, many schools on that list.

Yea I know but Rutgers isn't that bad and I was thinking of putting Perdue or BYU over UConn but I decided to add UConn because of the snob effect they garner from being in Connecticut. Plus I didn't want to put in a good school with a real football tradition because we all know they wouldn't accept anyways.

Actually, if you were going with the Top 12 schools that play Division 1-A football, as ranked by US News & World Report, you'd have the following:

Duke
Stanford
Northwestern
Rice
Notre Dame
Vanderbilt
Kal
Virginia
UCLA
Michigan
North Carolina
Wake Forest

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/colleg ... _brief.php

USN&WR doesn't rank the service academies, but we'll assume they'll qualify. In that case, you take out Wake Forest, UNC, and we'll say Michigan for the third spot (tied with UCLA, Michigan stays put on the basis of tradition). The conference would look something like this:

East: Army, Duke, Navy, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Virginia
West: Air Force, Kal, Northwestern, Rice, Stanford, UCLA

Or if you prefer, swap Northwestern and Vandy.

Interesting idea, and it would make for a pretty good basketball conference, but of course it would never happen.

Last year Texas beat USC

Yea, when I made that list I looked at the US News site for the top 50 universities. But I took two things into consideration.

1. Ivy league schools don't give out scholarships and would never leave the Ivy league for such a conference.

2. why would a school with a football tradition like Notre Dame, Michigan, Virgina or even UCLA leave a real conference to be part of the Math team conference.

I picked schools with good to great academics and little to no chance of ever competing on a competitive level with the traditional powers.

I freely admit that UConn was stretch, probably should have put in North Carolina but having visited Connecticut and witnessed how snobbish they can be I included them.

Last two years, with teams that finished in the upper half of the conferences,

Texas beat USC

well, there is a reason AB chose "two years".

he prolly would not want to explore too in depth UT's (ahem) success in the Holiday Bowl though he cites the HB for his "alleged" purpose. his point is accomlished, though unintentional.

nor would he like to see the definition of "bitch slapping" explored too deeply. out of taste, i have chosen not to be as predictable as he.

There's definiately a reason for it, since both Oregon and WSU have upset a Top-10 ranked Texas team, in the Holiday bowl since 2000.

But, I even gave him the benefit of the doubt with his two year rules. 2004-2005 The Upper half Big-12 teams are 3-2 against the Upper Half Pac-10 teams.
