Life is Short

Just found out a friend of mine's daughter just died.
I saw a helicopter taking off from our little town yesterday and said to my wife as we were driving, "Looks like someone is being life flighted." I found out later yesterday that a friend of mine's daughter was a t the sitter and started choking on a hot dog.
She was out (without oxygen) for 20 minutes, but the doctors got a hearbeat back. She was flown to Indianapolis. Her brain started swellng and she dies about 6 hours ago.
She was 2 years old.
I've never known someone REALLY close to me who died. My grandma died when I was 5 and I didn't really know her. I didn't know this friend of mie's daughter really well, but I know he was a hell of a guy. He does more for our church than anyone I know. He does more for the community than anyone I know. God must have had a reason to take his little angel from him and his family.
I gave my boy a big long hug after hearing this. It's just not fair.

You've got to live each day like it's your last..that is why I post here!
That story (sad one) makes me think of Field of Dreams..except Moonlight Graham wasn't there to save her in time...
My thoughts and prayers go out to you during these sad days...

Sorry to hear that. Choking on things caught in the trachea kills 4000 people in the US annually and is the 5th leading cause of accidental death. Basic CPR would have saved the girl in respiratory arrest but cardiac arrest. 20 minutes is too long to be without O2.
Most children that go into cardiac arrest die. You're suppose to cut food into very small bites for those at risk for aspiration: young kids and stroke victims.
That's too bad.

I like the new AP. I don't know if he's showing off newfound knowledge or if this is now he talks these days.

Oh shit...just got this email.
This is even worse.
Well….last night it was just a very bad rumor that Riley had passed. She actually made it through the night but she was brain dead, so they had to take her off of life support this morning. She died this morning. Abby and John had prayed and prayed last night that she would just go on her own so they wouldn’t have to make that horrible decision. They said that yesterday morning she was opening her eyes, and they would roll to the back of her head, but by late afternoon she wasn’t even doing that anymore. Just absolutely breaks my heart. No parent should have to do make that kind of decision, especially on their two year old.

Damn dude. That just plain sucks. As a Father, I can only imagine the pain they must be going through.
Think I'll call my Kiddo just to say Hi!
