How can you bypass a password on Windows XP?

I bought a laptop at an estate sale that has a password block on it.
How can you bypass this, and gain access to the computer?

Is this a BIOS password, or a Windows password.
If it's a BIOS password, you're fucked (short answer).

Did it come with the software. If it did you might have to reformat the computer. You'd probably want to do that anyway. If not go buy a new copy of XP and load it on the computer. This might help don't know didn't read the whole thing.

Unless you Want to search what is on the HD, reformat before you start using it. There are many reasons for this, the most obvious one being is that you want to make sure they didn't leave some virus or spyware behind to screw with you.
