Not bad, but a little over the top sometimes, a little SNL at times too. I like the interviews, because he truly will say anything. No softballs tossed on that show.

I try to catch it every night. I usually fall asleep trying to watch the 11:30 show so I watch it again at 8:30.

Dude has me ROFL more often than not.

Who cares what Jim Colbert has to say? Plus, this should be in the golf forum.

Your average infomercial is better than that shit.

Colbert is probably the best thing on CC hands down.

If you take it seriously, it might be looked upon that way, but it's not. It's satirical news comedy.

No, it's just unfunny and tedious. Mencken, O'Rourke and the like are actual satirists. They combine wit and commentary. Stewart is mearly a buffoon playing to the lunatic fringe and the feeble minded.

Yeah. In the 80's.

Yeah, it's TV satirical comedy, as opposed to satirical articles and books. O'Rourke writes books and articles, he doesn't do a 30 minute political comedy show that doesn't pretend to be anything else but light satirical comedy. It is what it is.

Good thing for you there is Cspan, huh?
H.L. Mencken wrote:"Democracy is the theory that holds that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."

"The liberation of the human mind has been best furthered by gay fellows who heaved dead cats into sanctuaries and then went roistering down the highways of the world, proving to all men that doubt, after all, was safe - that the god in the sanctuary was a fraud."

"A great nation is any mob of people which produces at least one honest man a century."

"Husband: A No. 16 neck in a No. 15 1/2 collar."

"Love: The delusion that one woman differs from another."
John Stewart wrote:The Oscars is really I guess the one night of the year when you can see all your favorite stars without having to donate any money to the Democratic Party. And it's exciting for the stars as well because it's the first time many of you have ever voted for a winner.

"Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot a man during a quail hunt ... making 78-year-old Harry Whittington the first person shot by a sitting veep since Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton, of course, (was) shot in a duel with Aaron Burr over issues of honor, integrity and political maneuvering. Whittington? Mistaken for a bird.

"This past weekend, the Democratic National Committee made it official -- electing former governor and one-time shoe-in Howard Dean as their new party chairman. As a doctor they're hoping he can reattach the ass handed to the Democrats in the past election. ... You know, there's something stirring about the peaceful transfer of no power."
Oh yeah. That Mencken is a laugh riot.

I'd try to explain the differance between wit and slapstick to you, but it would go over your head. Stick to the Dully show and the Three Stooges.

What's to explain? Dry wit ala Mark Twain, trying hard to remain intellectual while pretending to be "down" but not even defined as comedy, as opposed to biting, in your face modern day satirical comedy that doesn't pretend to be anything else but. Mutually exclusive categories of humor, IMO. I can appreciate both, I just don't laugh at Mencken and O'Rourke, it's not intended as that type of humor.

Sucks for you that you can't appreciate a little pointed, well aimed comedic satire now and then, low brow or otherwise.

And I'll take a few shorts of the Three stooges any day over the cartoons and articles in an issue of the National Lampoon or Harpers, unless I'm at the Dentist and have no choice.

Don't argue with Dio. He's a lot smarter than you and way more intellectual.

What, you don't believe me? Just ask him.

I hear he can slay a room with his seltzer bottle routine.

Hey Dio, there's this outraaaaageous new bit by these up and comers called "Abbott and Costello".
They have this gag called "Who's On First?" Dude, it's a real knee-slapper!

I like some of it.

Don't watch it on a regular basis, but some of the segments are humorous.

So were Martin and Lewis.

Benny Hill.

Now THAT is not funny.

Sure, the Brits have given us wonderful comic geniuses (the guys in Monty Python, especially John Cleese, spring to mind), but almost nothing can wipe away the truly foul, execrable stain on comic history that was "The Benny Hill Show."

Bob Hope WAS funny, you fucking uneducated, uncultured hillbilly.

And SO is Benny Hill, btw

The key word being WAS. the "on the road" movies, but later on he mailed it in with a bunch of corny jokes that were not funny

Benny Hill is funny if you like Pee-pee humor, and sexual innuendo. Nothing too deep there.

Dio making commentary on what is and isn't funny is funny, in and of itself.

What next, is he going to offer up spelling and grammar classes?

I think his next seminar over at the community college is called, "Writing Understated Message Board Posts in Pleasing Typefaces."

Current enrollment is at 0, but that should change once they add some hottie pics in the course description along with the improved size 24 bolded font.
