I didn't think anyone would see this, in August, on the hoops board so I'm posting it here

I was at this game. Here's the story. Oregon at USC, basketball game, last season. For the halftime contest they chose a student from the USC student section to shoot for a $10,000 scholarship. The kid fires up the halfcourt shot as time expires and the crowd is going nuts. Then he takes off his USC shirt and has an Oregon jersey on underneath.

The crowd reaction quickly changed. I, was laughing my ass off. there was a story about it in the paper the next day. The kid is a USC student, but grew up in Eugene and is a Duck fan. They didn't end up giving him the scholarship money on a technicality, but it was a sweet moment anyway.

wasnt even aware USC still had a basketball team, hopefully they can cancel that program and apply the scholarships and money to the baseball program

what should have been posted was "I dont think anyone would give a shit about this in August, or any other month, but its another chance to try to pile on USC, even if it is a sport that no one cares about and 8 or 9 months after the fact." Whats next OJ resets?

Yeah, what an obscure and trivial sport college hoops is. Nobody gives a shit. Especially in March. What a yawn-fest that whole month is. Shit, if it weren't for the MILLIONS of brackets floating around work stations throughout that month, you'd have no idea a tournament was even going on.

Here's the deal, it was one of those contests, make a layup, free throw, 3-pointer-halfcourt shot in 30 seconds.

He made the first 2 right away. missed once on the 3, but got it back quickly and made it. Then he missed the half court shot, and it looked like it was going to be over, but the ball bounced out to halfcourt on the rebound. the ball just reached him before time expired and he threw it up and it went in at the buzzer.

Everyone thought he'd won it that night. Him, the crowd, the announcers. Then, when it came time to pony up, they said that you get as many tries at the layup, free-throw, 3-pointer, but only 1 try at the half court shot, even if it's within the time limit.

I'm sure that's written in the fine print, but the fact that even the people putting on the contest, at the time, thought he'd won it, makes you wonder if they would have given it to him if he'd left the USC shirt on.

A friend of mine actually made one of those shots in 1992 and got a full ride for two semesters. Rack him.

Wow...it really sucks that he didn't get the prize.

No, USC could win every basketball game they ever played, I still wouldnt give a shit cause its a god damn boring game.
Hockey, now that would be a great sport for USC to take more seriously, put ice down at Galen and have the school go D1 in hockey, leave the basketball to the pussy schools that hang the soccer banners
