Pics from the Cardinals new stadium yesterday

Post by Th »

Overall the place was really nice and it was bigger than I expected. It was odd to be at a day preseason game in AZ. Major complaints from the crowd were the $9.50-$10.50 beer prices (not kidding) AND that by the middle of the 3rd qtr the beer was GONE. The stadium wasn't ready for the crowd but I think that they will get used to it. Oddly, the entire season is already sold out - that's gotta be a 1st for AZ.

1. The outside aesthetics are actually interesting and space age like:

Image

2. Decent views of the field from anywhere in the house:

Image

3. View from the endzone where the field rolls outside for sun:

Image

4. Second view of same endzone. I heard for the Superbowl they plan to PACK this section with stands:

Image

5. The door where the field rolls out:

Image

6. The roof reminded me of Texas Stadium:

Image

7. Tasteful pregame rendidtion of the National Anthem. Hate to say it but the bagpipes in the prelude reminded me of that 'Chutes and Ladders' tune by Korn.

Image

8. Local thoughts on the Leinart holdout:

Image

9. The view from my boy's seats - The Card's fans were funny talking shit about a preseason game. Guess you gotta hold onto what you can as a AZ fan!

Image

All in all I will give the Stadium an 'A'. Still too hot outside but it was 75 inside so that by itself is a MAJOR improvement. Too bad the team isn't likely to follow suit!

Looks nice! I've never been in a covered stadium. I'm imagining the dynamic must be completely different! I definitely wanna check one out someday. But for now it's Alltel and the Swamp for me.

Looks like a cross between Reliant Stadium and Ford Field. This stadium has a retractable roof, correct? And that's where the college football "national championship game" will be, right?

Looks like a very nice crib. A&E had a show called "Modern Marvels" on a while back that showed the construction of the new Cardinals stadium and the way they built the roof was pretty high-tech stuff. The fact that they sold out the place for the entire season is a trip in and above itself.

Yes, I believe so. The Superbowl is to be played there in 2008 as well.

Nice stuff TH. Definently better then sitting out in the sun! Do the planes still fly right over? After 911 that stuff kinda freaked me out. What do you mean that the field rolls back?

So is Brady going to sit out next game or are the Cards going to end his season?

The point is that preseason or not, this isn't last years team by any means. Big Ben sitting after one series when he was sacked out of scoring range, and barely missed another was probably a good idea.

Now if the Cards only had a backup QB...

And yet the Cards will be in the Playoffs this year while the Dolts will be gripping as usual. Not to mention the fact the Dolts are going to get bitchslaped by them at home Dec. 31. Enjoy your delusions of adequacy, loser.

The stadium is nowhere near an airport of any consequence and the entire playing surface rolls from inside the stadium to the outside so it can get the proper sunlight for the grass to grow, and then back inside for games- no kidding.

How does a covered stadium suck? Look at this.

Image

You are always blinded by the sun, rained on, sweating, freezing... no protection from the elements. Unless that's how football SHOULD be?

I thought covered stadiums would be cooler. Doesn't the music and crowd sound louder and the field look brighter and easier to see overall? More powerful experience, I would think?

You obviously have never experienced the joy of playing football in the snow.

Home field advantage doll. Imagine Jacksonville having to go to New England in January during a blizzard. Advantage Patriots.

You are aware that the lid in Arizona isn't going to be keeping out too many blizzards, right?

The retractable roofs in Houston and Arizona make a lot of sense for those cities' climates. I can see having beef with folks like Indy, Minny, Detroit and St. Louis but domed stadia definitely have a place.

It sure as hell did a good job keeping the 104 degree temps out.

Same here. What Patsy doesn't seem to understand is that some of use use that monitor space for something other than just browsing. In my case, an instance of Trillian resides on the right side of my monitor.

However, there is another way to deal with the problem.

Stupid page stretching image now GONE.
