Leinart, Cardinals reach agreement on six-year dealESPN.com news services
The Arizona Cardinals and quarterback Matt Leinart have reached an agreement in principle on a six-year contract, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports.
According to sources, the contract could be worth as much as $50.8 million if all incentives are reached. The deal calls for $14 million in guaranteed money.
Leinart was the 10th pick overall in the 2006 NFL draft. He had been the league's lone rookie holdout since the Dolphins and free safety Jason Allen agreed on a deal last Tuesday.
Bout time.

Exactly. Now we can see if he's the next Carson Palmer or the next Ryan Leaf. It's still Kurt's team unless he gets hurt, but I'm already tired of Navarre after one game on the radio. The Assassin wrote:Bout time.

Leinart has yet to show me a thing. Most of the QBs that start for D1-A teams could have performed well with that surrounding cast. Sure, he looked good...but right now, give me a guy like Gradkowski, who you fucking know is a tough kid who makes shit happen and WINS.

So far he's managed to show that he's a me first player with a strong sense of entitlement. I guess if the media sucks up to you for four years at USC, you must be the next Joe Montana. Or not. I just hope he isn't the next Gino Torretta.PSUFAN wrote:Leinart has yet to show me a thing.

No, holding out now hurts him as a player. He's a rookie who needs to learn the entire offensive system, every week he loses is going to make it that much harder for him to step in if something happens to Warner.
I'd actually be interested on the details of the incentives that were being offered and rejected. was it money or the thresholds to achieve? Either way, props to the Bidwells for getting it done.

The holdout isn't going to make a damn bit of difference. Period. Lienart was going to ride the pine for at least a half year anyway. At that point if they've played like the Cards of old, then MAYBE you throw Lienart in there to season him up for next year. In the meantime, it is not as if he hasn't been studying his playbook, watching film and going to skull sessions. By the time the Nutty Proffesor decides to put Lienart in, he'll be just as ready as he would have been had he played in that preseason game against Pittsburgh.Diogenes wrote:No, holding out now hurts him as a player. Which is to say, not at all. Because no rookie QB not named Dan Marino is EVER ready to walk in there and start slinging the ball. Even Roethlisberger had to be coddled and spoon fed his offensive system for a year before he could finaly start using the full playbook. So STFU and get ready to watch Lienart take his lumps. And maybe in two years, if the Bidwells don't fuck things up, you'll have a decent team to root for.

Thanks for the update. Actually he's going to stay on the bench as long as Kurt is around and healthy. The point is whether he is able to step in if Kurt goes down in week 7 or week 10. If you don't think the extra two or three weeks of training camp and preseason will make a differance you're an idiot.BSmack wrote:Lienart was going to ride the pine for at least a half year anyway.Diogenes wrote:No, holding out now hurts him as a player. Kurt will be shown the door after this year unless he agrees to a redo of his contract. Lienart takes over next year. There is no way the Bidwells pay that much money to Lienart and not play him next year.Diogenes wrote:Thanks for the update. No, it won't make a fucking difference. When (notice I did not say if) Warner goes down the Cards season is OVER. Lienart getting 2 weeks of training camp reps would not have changed that simple fact. The end result is the same. Which is bad football in the desert yet again. The point is whether he is able to step in if Kurt goes down in week 7 or week 10. They're going to toss a Super Bowl Champ for an unproven rookie? Fortunately Dennis Green isn't as stupid as you. As far as Warner going down being a fait accomplit, you might be projecting here a little. You'd be better off concerning yourself with Ben R. getting out of the regular season alive.BSmack wrote:Kurt will be shown the door after this year unless he agrees to a redo of his contract. When said unproven rookie is guaranteed 14 million? HELL YES. Welcome to the motherfucking NFL. I know being a Cards fan has precluded you from actualy watching games or giving a shit in any way, but that's how things work in the league. Guaranteed money equals a starting job.Diogenes wrote:They're going to toss a Super Bowl Champ for an unproven rookie?
Ah, there you go. Deflect from your stupidity by running smack on the Super Bowl Champs. Yea, that will go well for you.Fortunately Dennis Green isn't as stupid as you. I guess someone missed their first preseason game. The SB champs OL nearly got their QB killed on the first (and last for BR series). The Cards OL is looking a tad different now that they have everyone but Ross healthy and have added a couple players through FA and the draft, not to mention a new coordinator.
And Denny Green says you're still an idiot. Kurt is the starter period. The prima donna will have to wait until he moves on or gets hurt to get his shot. If then.

He got sacked once. Not sure if you've ever seen an NFL game, but occasionaly QBs have to take hits.Diogenes wrote:I guess someone missed their first preseason game. The SB champs OL nearly got their QB killed on the first (and last for BR series).
They looked really good matched up against the Steelers second stringers. Let's see what happens when they play a real game. My guess is that they will look better than last year by a little bit.The Cards OL is looking a tad different now that they have everyone but Ross healthy and have added a couple players through FA and the draft, not to mention a new coordinator.
Kurt is the starter THIS year and THIS year only. He might as well buy that house in Oakland now, cause that's where he'll be next year. And Denny Green says you're still an idiot. Kurt is the starter period. The prima donna will have to wait until he moves on or gets hurt to get his shot. If then.

You've been smoking a little to much Martyball. The fact is Dennis Green is in charge of this team, and no, he's not going to take an unproven rookie over a SB MVP, especially if Kurt leads them to the NFC finals, let alone the SB.
And actually the OLine looked pretty good against the SB champs first stringers.
And more importantly, their second string looked dominant as well against the Steelers second string.
Not to mention the defense...

The good news is that when the Cards are 4-7 and Lienart is already under center and Warner is house shopping in Oakland, Dio will go back to polluting the theology forum.Dumbass wrote:B, Arguing with Dio...might as well do this.

One of us doesn't know shit about the Bidwells.
Bill doesn't give a fuck about anything but ticket sales and the publicity to sell said tickets. Coaches named Dennis Green aren't cheap, neither are QBs named Warner. Both of those guys will be around as long as the Cards are winning, not because of their talent but because of their names.
And yes, the Cards will be winning.

No shit Warner isn't cheap. And neither is Lienart. Which is why Warner will be given the choice to restructure his deal next season. The ONLY way Warner doesn't get pushed aside is if he somehow plays like the 1999 version of Kurt Warner AND stays healthy for the whole season.Diogenes wrote:Coaches named Dennis Green aren't cheap, neither are QBs named Warner.

The fact is, I wasn't predicting shit last season even when they were 3-0 in preseason. But this season is different, this team is improved in every facet of the game (except QB, letting McCown go still pisses me off) and they have a very favorable schedule. BTW, every year there is one team who surprises all the critics, who nobody sees coming.Except this year, you'll all know where you heard it first.

If I could use smilies there would be plenty with this little gem. I'm sure you are man enough to put a sig/AV bet on the line for that one. The Boys will die in the desert? In November? I mean I could understand if this was 115 degree heat, but it'll probably be an overcast 75 degrees. I definitely like our chances.
